Anyone out there run their SHO at the track?

I picked up my 2012 last week (Blue, most options besides the PP, my intention was to pick up a boring commuter car, this was about as far as I could take that), and had it at the dragstrip on Saturday (Hi  My name is Mark, and I have a problem). I was actually pleasantly surprised, with a full tank of 87octane I ran a 13.7 and then 2 [email protected]. I suspect that with a little tinkering/figuring out how the car likes to be driven, _much_ less gas in the tank and some 93 octane I should be able to get it under a 13.3, dead stock.

I was under the impression that this should be a 13.8-14.x car...

What are you guys running (if not stock with what kind of mods?)?

Huh, seriously considering a tune, cold air intake and maybe a few other tweaks... I'm also wondering if water/meth with the right tune might be the way to go. Arg... boring commuter cars that weigh 4400lbs...
:p

Some pics, because we all know that any thread is better with pics, my SHO, aint she pretty? I don't get the attention that this car gets, the first night I brought it to the gym it attracted a crowd, and I had a couple of people chase me down to talk about it the last few days. Even a track event with a bunch of heavy hitters in the lanes I still had people asking about it:

Sitting in the staging lanes next to my brother's "race car" (I have to admit that he ran a 3 passes in the mid 10.7x-10.8 range):

One of my 13.5 timeslips (lol, this one was a win against a mustang :woo-hoo:):

Lots of SHO stripping action. Several tuned SHO's are in the low 12's, and ready to break into the 11's.

Torrie @ Unleashed Tuning & Livernois have tune packages that can get you into the high 12's without other mods. Low 12's require spray (Methanol).

So CAI isn't necessary but a tune and water/meth will go deep into the 12's?

What about those times as compared to other stock SHOs?

93 octane definitely helps. SHO at 365 hp is rated on premium vs other EB engines that have 355 hp on 87. CAI may help some, but DA is the critical issue. I made a custom CAI for my Flex which runs cooler than the AirAid I purchased later. Exhaust can also help, but would guess both might make at most 10 hp...(Mostly visual and NOISE FLUFF!) where a good tune can add 60 hp.

My Flex weighs at least 400 lbs more than SHO. My best without spraying Methanol was a 13.44.

Since late 2009, there have been many threads here on all of this. You may be able to find the answers if you troll the Gen 4 performance threads. Also PM BPD and he may be able to direct you to further info.

With just a tune and cold air I ran 13.5, with tune, cold air, and cat back I ran 13.33. I then added Eibach springs and ran 13.11.

All of these runs were during the hot period this summer. It would have broken 12s as it was. I have since added a 3 bar map (more boost), alky control methanol injection, 170 stat, and Livernois Stage 5 tune. In addition I cut the side out of my airaid hoping to get more air in. Hoping for 12.0-12.2 range with these mods. Considering drag bags, and the Livernois downpipes next.

Does it ever end?

What the heck is with attachments on this forum??? the following quoted section from my original post has 3 pictures in it, that I can see from my original browser that I posted from, but I can't see them from any other machine or even from a different browser on the same machine.

I played with this a little and I'm pretty sure the forum database is AFU... I'd bet that my pics are not the only ones that did this. To that end I've edited the original post to show my pics (at least for the time being)

Most likely, this is a feature, not a bug. Image handling can **** databases, and the forum having already suffered through a massive crash years prior, don't want a repeat experience. So photobucket or some offsite pic site is used by most members on this forum, and they embed video links as needed. HTH.

Recently went to Milan Dragway (Milan, MI.) and although it rained earlier in the day, the track wasn't well prepped, and not to mention it was cold (started in the mid 40's when track opened, but dropped to the high 30's by night's end)....

I still managed to eek out (twice) a 12.37 @ 111MPH.....

General consencus from everyone there was that under better conditions, I can expect a 12.2, or even a 12.1.

We'll see. :naughty:

Yes, there were two other SHO's that both were 'tween 12.1's and 12.3's....

Best of the night by a Gen4 SHO was a 12.09.

11's are still ****** territory as of this point, however everyone was experiencing traction issues that night at Milan Dragway.

So it seems after discussing the conditions amongst all of us, that we all collectively and individually each were averaging .2 < then expected.

So 11's should be well within reach.

Think it will take some front slicks & perhaps some smaller tires. Of course we both know what rain and bad track conditions do to traction... LOL

Also... Chris @ Circle D is going to work on a stall converter.

BPD... how did the downpipes work? Did you get to the dyno to check out?

Who got the 12.09? One of the guys running more efficient turbos, or someone else?

What seems strange is you got a 12.37 but only 111 mph... you musta got a really good 60'!

Bob I ran MT DR's and spun horribly, its hard to see what BDP's 60' are but my best 60' was a 1.85 with the same ET. So I would say great 60's but could have been better. 1stsho had the 12.09 with modded turbo's and high flow catted down pipes.

Thanks Crash!

I was running Nitto DR's on my Flex. On my G8, I run Hoosier's. I actually had to up the pressures to get my best run when it was around 45 deg... Started at 22 psi and went to 27 psi. I had a (roughly) 1.75 60' when I got my 12.07 run with G8 on last pass, with very hot tranny. Also, my A/F was very (extremely) lean... Wondering if I have a vacuum leak, which would lean everything out. Since that G8 is now on blocks for winter... I guess I wait till spring to get into the 11's. At least I have a goal.

As for Flex, when I had DR's on, it was 71-75 deg... so they hooked up great.
The Nitto DR's are going on my G8 down here in Naples, whenever I get a pair of 18" wheels.

Glad you guys had a great time at Livernois Track Day...

Welcome and just FYI, if you can't immediately run alky/water injection an alternative is to run 100 octane with 100 octane tune, this will make a HUGE difference, almost equal to or equal to alky/water. I went from 13.5@102 to 13.1@105 with a 100 octane tune. I'm not saying don't get the meth injection kit just that you can get close to the same performance for track nights.
