Just an idea for my ATX... think it may help?
93 nighthawk may be right, but I would use Lubegard when you change the fluid. the bottle cost about $12 and will work better than anything I would try. It comes in a red bottle and is at any NAPA store. Look them up at lubegard.com. There product is a replacement for sperm whale oil that used...- ziggy

Timing belt tensioner idler broken
This happened to me about 18 months ago. The pully took out the bottem pully, the shroud cover, the crankshaft sensor and the engine temp sensor. Several hundred $ to fix. Ziggy 95 stock SHO MTX- ziggy

ATX fluid
Synthetic ATF is not cheap about $8 per quart, but it will last 3-4 time the recommended fluid change time per the manual. Amsoil has a Synthetic ATF and will meet this or surpass it. An other choice would be to add a bottle of Lubegard red to the transmission at the time of the fluid and...- ziggy

Transmission woes
The life of the transmission is tied to the fluid and the cooler. This is a little late for this case, but a good transmission cooler will help to keep the temp down. Synthetic ATF is a good start and will outlast the conventional ATF by 3-4 times. Lubegard makes a additive transmission...- ziggy
