    Ball Joint Removal and Replacement

Well, the popping noise wasn't there before we changed the sway bar end links and outer tie rod ends, but yeah, that is something to look at also. I really don't want to get into changing the inner tie rods, I don't know how to do that but hey, I didn't know how to do any of this other stuff...

    Ball Joint Removal and Replacement

Well I finally got the SHO all back together. The front now has new wheel bearings, ball joints, sway bar end links, tie rod ends, brake pads and newly painted black calipers. It took way longer to do all of this than I had anticipated but that's how it goes when working in the driveway and at...

    Ball Joint Removal and Replacement

I installed the ball joint and wheel bearing assembly today, making progress. Now the ball joint has a proper snap ring in place also. The spindle is all ready to be installed along with a new sway bar end link.

    Ball Joint Removal and Replacement

Yep, there was no snap ring at all on the passenger side ball joint. I think you are right, the twisted metal I saw was probably the wire that is around the rubber boot, in the pictures you will see just how bad this ball joint was. I got a "loaner" ball joint removal and installation kit from...

    Ball Joint Removal and Replacement

I finally had some time today and removed the right side spindle and removed the wheel bearing/hub assembly. I am going to replace the ball joint also, it is really beat up. I don't see any sort of snap ring on this ball joint. There was a metal band that was all twisted up but I have no idea if...

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Thanks for all the tips guys. I really appreciate it. We had the drivers side all back together but now we are going to take it all back apart to replace the ball joints. They looked, kinda meh, the passenger sides looked really bad so, I ordered a kit that came with sway bar end links front and...

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Yep, we decided to go ahead and replace ball joints on both sides as well as replacing this plastic end links with steel ones.

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Yep, still have the other side to do also. Lol.

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Success. I found the reason my impact would barely move the bolts was because they had blue loctite on them. I was able to break them free with a 1/2 breaker bar and then used the impact the rest of the way. I got the old hub/bearing assembly out with no problems, it slid out without a fight and...

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Thanks. I went to Harbor Freight and got a big ol honkin pickle fork and was able to remove the ball joint and now the axle is free from the steering knuckle. I ran out of daylight so, we will continue with this project tomorrow when I get home from work. I had loosened up the two bolts that I...

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Add to the above also removed the strut punch bolt to separate it from the steering knuckle/spindle.

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Yeah, we have tried turning the whole thing. I watched a video where the guy removed the tie rod end and the sway bar end link, then he hammered on the steering knuckle/spindle and it slid down far enough that the strut could be removed from the steering knuckle/spindle which allowed the...

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Thanks. So, I found a video showing that once you remove the brake caliper, caliper bracket, rotor and of course the hub nut, you should be able to push the axle back far enough to get to the 3 bolts on the back of the steering knuckle/spindle. Well, that didn't work for me. I could get to the...

    Power Steering Pump Replacement

    Yep!

    Power Steering Pump Replacement

Right, the power steering pump is fine, not making any noise at all anymore, very quiet. This weekend we plan to replace the front wheel bearings and while we have the car up on jack stands I want to inspect the steering rack and lines for any leaks.

    Moog Front Wheel Bearings

Cool, thanks for the tips. I have an impact gun also and I'm sure it will come in handy. It seems there are different ways of doing this. The videos I have watched show some people removing "this and that" while others may not remove "this and that" at all, such as ball joints. The description...
