    Cranks but no start

Well, remember, its a 20+ year old car at this point. Working on it regularly is just normal. pax, smn

    Cranks but no start

I also think there is a very reasonable chance it is the IAC with those symptoms. Take it out, clean it very gently with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, and then try it again. Or just replace it. They are not hugely expensive. pax, smn

    Brakes

My Porsche 997.2 C4S came with drilled rotors, and it is getting toward 10 years old now with no indications of cracking. And I do, on occasion, brake very hard as most of my really fast driving occurs on rural back roads where deer and livestock tend to show up rather unexpectedly, as, on...

    Brakes

The drilling and slotting is now what causes sudden huge brake onset, but rather how the calibers are set up to respond. D&S simply gives better cooling by increasing the surface area of the disk and provides an easy place for residue to move off the disk quickly (plus, of course, a slight...

Cam Repair Needed For 97 SHO

Makes sense to me. Back forever ago when all this was happening, I remember briefly considering doing pinning for mine, but instead figured welding was likely a better idea and went with that. pax, smn

Cam Repair Needed For 97 SHO

I do not see anything either. When pinned, you are correct, there is a hole drilled through and a pin pressed in and then its ends flattened to prevent it from coming out. Its a far less common way of handling the problem, but back in the day when this was a newly found thing, it was tried by...

Cam Repair Needed For 97 SHO

Cam Repair Needed For 97 SHO

And it has 370k now? OK, then I would revise my guess and say likely it is not the cam sprockets. Once they start to go, you often have very little time before they move enough that the motor dies, since it is an interference design. So, now I would guess that something else is making your...

Cam Repair Needed For 97 SHO

With that distance on the clock, I am willing to guess it has at one time or another been welded or pinned, which some early fixes used, but something has broken loose now. Regardless, it does sound like it needs attention to the cam sprockets if you are going to save the engine, and you should...

    Getting Her Ready

Looks like your engine cover was painted? Or did any of them come that way. Mine is sliver rather than dark like that, but I have the same black exterior and grey interior. pax, smn

She is looking good. For the tree droppings, plain old rubbing alcohol seems to work well without causing damage to the clear coat. pax, smn

    IMRC

Actually, that was all I did and it never came back. I really do suspect that it is not the IMRC causing your code and SES light. pax, smn

    IMRC

Ah, I think there is another issue causing your SES. If you wire the IMRC open you will get a code on first start up after, but when you clear that, you will never get the code again. Mine has been wired open since about 1999. pax, smn

    EGR issues

Very strange. So, if you have no problem with the ERG vac line off, well, considering you do not at this point have a functional emissions control system anyway with the other changes, maybe just leave it off? Do you need to pass an emissions inspection to get licensed? If not, might be its...
