IMO, the catch can is a worthwhile accessory. If your car is stock a single catch can is good enough. How many miles on your car? It may be time for an intake valve cleaning.

From my experience, a catch can on Bank 1 does remove the oily condensation produced during startup. There is already an oil separator (catch can with drain back) built into the valve cover but my external catch can does grab the condensation and I would recommend one, especially if you live with winter weather. I also ran one on my stock Explorer Sport 3.5 EB for the same reason and result. Bank 2 also has a built in oil separator and it's only used under boost. I used a catch can on Bank 2 and it was dry after 6 months so I removed it. Unless you are tracking/racing alot at 18-20psi, I don't think a Bank 2 can will help a stock engine unless it has abnormal blow by.

Catch can is worth it. Bank one for sure, I went with UPR brand. I opted for their dual valve can setup with the front CSS. My car got a high volume oil pump when I redid the engine so the CSS was not doing the job for me on the front bank so I ran a second catch can up front. I opted for the drain hose on my UPR catch can, I drain it at oil changes and do get oily water out of it.

If you’ve got the Melling HV, step up your oil weight to 5W-40 or 0W-40. It helps a lot and won’t hurt oil flow at all.

I got UPR’s short CSS instead of another catch can on the front valve cover and the intake line is always clean.

I do have the HV Melling pump. I was sucking oil with the CSS that came with the UPR setup. I plumbed in a cheap amazon catch can to take car of my issue. I will keep the oil weight change in mind, thanks for the feedback.
