Hey guys im new here and I have an issue with my passenger puddle lamp. The original didn't work and neither does the new led light i got from form lighting. The driver side does work and so does everything else including interior lights and from what ive read those are all connected so if fuse was bad they would be also. Am I understanding that right? Has anyone else had this problem where only one puddle lamp is out and even a new light didn't fix the issue? Thanks guys ahead of time for your help.

Did you replace both puddles? You mentioned an LED. Is the driver side also LED? I assume, either the one you installed isn't compatible or you've got a short of some sort. Swap the drivers light to the passenger.

If it still doesn't work, you're either going to need to do some troubleshooting or live without that light. Put a multimeter on it and open/close the door to see if it's getting power (maybe a connecter is broke or bent). After that, I guess try tracing the wire back to a fray / break.

To add to this, LED may need a resistor in the line. When I upgraded my interior lights I had to add resistors (just pressed them in the socket with the bulb). Not sure how the puddles function but my aftermarket ones work fine.

I put led in both sides the driver side worked before and after the led install. Passenger side did NOT work before OR after led install. Its not a huge deal but it would be nice to get it working. I dont care enough to trouble shoot possibly bad wires. Ill do without it before I do that lol. I was just wondering if anyone had these troubles or might know an easy solution. Thanks guys

Have you checked for voltage to the bulb when the light should be on? You may want to use a test light with a standard bulb to provide some load on the circuit. If the test light lights, then your original bulb was probably bad and your replacement LED may be polarity-sensitive. Try swapping the bulb end-for-end. Many of the new LED bulbs include rectifiers to eliminate the need to get the orientation correct, but not all do.

Some good suggestions so far.

A few of my thoughts....

Check the the passenger door jamb flex harness for breaks. You can open the door and when the puddle light should be on, wiggle the rubber boot where the door harness goes from the inside body to the door. If wiggling it momentarily makes it come on, then you have a break in a wire in that harness.

Does it look like the mirror or door has been apart due to an accident?

If you remove the small sail panel trim cover on the inside of the door opposite where the passenger outside mirror mounts to the door, you'll find an electrical connector C615. I didn't see what year SHO you had, but based on your profile picture I looked up the wiring schematics for a 2015 Taurus SHO.

The BCM feeds power to both mirror puddle lamps through fuse F12, a 15 amp fuse and then splices at Splice 384 then through inline connector C3139 under the passenger side of the dash and onto the mirror connector C615.

When the puddle lamp should be on, you can check with a volt meter and/or test light for 12 v at pin 5, on the VT / Violet colored wire and ground at pin 7, on the BK/YE Black/Yellow wire.

If it lights up with power and ground at the connector, then you have an issue with the internal mirror harness or socket for the puddle lamp bulb. If it doesn't light at connector C615, then you need determine which is missing for the bulb, power, ground or even possibly both. Then you can back track from there. The flex harness is something that can be problematic on door related wiring issues, particularly the driver's door, as it gets the most use. Obviously, the passenger door is where I would focus.

Hope this helps.

Mike
