    If we ban everyone that makes an error, there is no one left... ;) For general information, there was a NASA study on fail modes in vehicles ages ago and it found that something like 98% of all fails ended up being caused by electrical connections in one way or another. Interesting, eh. smn

    The originals were very strongly constructed and of good materials. I suspect most people that have replaced theirs did so with the idea of changing the exhaust sound more than the need to do so due to failure of the factory muffler.

    IIRC the point of the air injection pump is to more rapidly heat up the catalytic converters. Running fuel rich produces a cooler exhaust, not a hotter one, so yes, if the air pump is out of spec, you could be getting excess fuel in the exhaust.     Other things might be causing the noise, but if the cams are not welded, at that mileage there is a good chance the cam sprockets are starting to slip. Disassembly, repositioning correctly, and then welding are really the only solutions for this. smn
