And a stipper version at that! Almost worth swapping everything over from mine just for some extra headroom!

I emailed the guy to see what he meant about the camshafts. He replied back and told me that he purposely ground off 12 of the cam lobes, one intake and one exhaust per cylinder for better fuel economy. He turned it into a 12 valve engine on purpose. Wtf!

I don’t know why, but after reading the ad that response isn’t too surprising. However hilarious, that response is a little scary. I’d be afraid to buy any car from that person.

This is what he sent me - "I modified the original camshafts by grinding (very carefully to avoid getting them hot enough to cause warping) one of the exhaust and one of the intake lobes off for each of the six cylinders. The intent was to reduce the internal energy loss of the valvetrain. The unitended consequence is that when the engine is started cold there seems to be insuffient fuel delivery. I believe what happens is that some of the fuel stays on the back side of the inactive intake valve until the engine warms enough to vaporize that fuel. Within about 20-30 seconds (depending on the ambient temperature) the engine runs fine. Like my auction says, the cams (all 4) would need to be replaced to return it to normal."

I would have thought that he should have done that little chore if he wanted to sell it. Having to explain that to someone is something I would have avoided like the plague.

That is a pretty radical modification, and I wonder what the penalties are going to be in the future. I wonder what the back side of that dormant valve looks like?

And how much better mileage could you possibly squeeze out doing this anyways? The injector still metered out the fuel and the valve train losses would not be much to begin with.

Is it just my screen or does the rear trunk where it meets the rear bumper cover look rusty? Maybe my screen res is not great. Most of the body looks ok. I've only had 1 GenI with all leather. Is that interior color scheme correct? 50/50 armrest and no tan on the dash to match door panels and that cloth? I miss my GenI but I haven't seen one in a long time. Non leather and non black interior even longer

seller ended the auction early, here is his explanation:

UPDATE MONDAY 4/16/18: A problem has occurred with the registration for my SHO. This is due to a misunderstanding with California DMV regarding the status of this vehicle's registration. While attempting to get a "one day moving" permit today (which was denied - at ANY price) it was brought to my attention that over $600 in fees and penalties are due. My intent in getting the permit was to be able to legally drive the car at highway speeds to check its roadworthiness for several bidders who have expressed an interest in flying in and driving the SHO home over 1000 miles unescorted. There is not enough time before this auction ends to resolve a my dispute with DMV. I do NOT want the new owner to have any problems registering the car, in whatever state they my live. I sincerely regret any inconvenience or disappointment that this may cause anyone and ask for forgiveness.
