Hello all, I came across this tune bundle https://unleashedtuning.com/sho-power-package/. I have a 2016 non pp SHO. It is my daily driver with no mods. I've done research on here saying a tune is the best bang for the buck. Would this be a good route to go? What is the reliability of tunes and do they strain the car? Would you get other mods like an air intake or exhaust before you get the tune? Thanks for all you help and advice.

I personally I would rather go with AJPTurbo or Gearhead as they specialize in the SHO platform moreso then others. Gearhead's Auto Octane tune is amazing. Yes a tune is the best bang for your buck. The reliability of most tunes are spot on. Do they put strain on the car? Of course they do. You are turning the performance up. There is only one intake that works worth a crap and that is the Eco Power Parts intake. However, the price point is steep. A K&N drop in panel filter is the most cost effective route to go. You do not need an exhaust to a support tune. The stock exhaust flows more than enough.

SM105K, when you mention EPP intake are you referring to their transverse cold air intake? If you are, it looks interesting. Any idea if one would see much of a HP gain or is it more eye candy. BTW I really like the GH-AO tune.
    Thanks

Yes, I am referring to the transverse cold air intake. I really don't know HP gain off the top of my head, but I remember people reporting a 8% drop in wastegate duty cycle when installed. Personally, for the price the juice isn't worth the squeeze for me.

Matt saw about a 10hp peak gain over stock on his dyno. We don't have an awd dyno so can't confirm, but on Virtual Dyno we saw a 12hp gain, a 1 psi gain in boost, 8% drop in wgdc, and seat of the pants was better than the AirAid. This was before our addition of the HPFP, need to run again and compare.

The only thing I would note on this is that in order to be cheaper, it looks like Torrie has swapped out the SP-542 spark plugs for the NGK 6510s. We've done extensive testing with both and found that the 5610s aren't really optimal at the 0.026" gap that we recommend, and have a tendency to increase gap over small periods of time which will potentially cause spark blowout and increase vibration at idle.

Just for comparison, here's our performance pack. With just this on 93 we've had customers go 12.62 in the quarter, 12.32 on E30, and 12.06 with E30 and downpipes.

Will be interesting to see what bpd puts in his rebuilt motor. He ran 6510s without an issue for the longest time.

@ SHOdded...... Although you are correct, the NGK's served me well, and were problem free, just out of mere convenience I did return back to the 542's (simply due to convenience of availability).

@ SM105...... The EPP intake wasn't the "only one"worth a crap. After all, the people who were responsible for it's development, based it off of mine. So there were/are two that are worth it.

Which, mine was based off of/from the Hennessy design. So really there are three total that are worth it. But let's be real, I'm not selling mine, and if you think the EPP one's are pricey, go scope out the Hennessey kit. Ha!

Funny side note, they used my engine bay pic briefly as advertisement (the vendor behind the EPP variant). And...... they never asked, never mentioned it, and then they took it down after I mentioned that was/is kind of shady, as the replica produced, did have variations in comparison to mine. So it wasn't necessarily proper advertising, nor did it represent that actual product they made.

Meh, just a funny back story.

    Carry on. Lol.

I refer to the cold air intakes not being worth a crap in context for price vs gains. I think they are expensive and IMO do not provide significant power gains compared to other mods for the price.

Even as a dealer and user myself, I definitely don't think that the dual intake is worthwhile until you have pretty much everything else done. As I said in another thread, I have two customers that ran neck and neck with the only difference between dual feed vs Airaid intake. On a basic "power pack" car I would go with a used Airaid and call it a day. That's what I ran for 2 years up until I swapped. With HPFP and downpipes the EPP shines especially when my stock turbos were tapped out, this helped them breathe a little better and extend my potential. With aftermarket turbos and a dialed in tune it may shine even more. Most aftermarket turbo cars we've tuned have been with an Airaid intake though, so can't confirm.

doesn't matter how fast it go's just as long as it looks cool right!
    Just ask any STI owner.

And yes the power packs for the money are your best bang for the buck and in a scene it's the start of a bigger problem.
