Until further proof...I still stand by my statement. We all have seen WAY too many myths about the SHO in general (V6 and V8). I knew one guy who almost bet his paycheck that the V6's came turbocharged from the factory......and we all know about the 300hp debate... (yes, I know the motor can be built to that spec....but in a 3400lbs sedan, it wouldn't be all that drivable in stop-go traffic)

Lets not forget that a lot of people THINK that SHO's are supercharged, turbocharged, 4.6 or 5.0 liters, etc. when in fact they're not. Ive met a lot of SHO Owners that thought their cars were turbo just cause of the sound and feel that the secondaries give. Just a thought.

FWIW there is a 89 Probe gt heavily modded here in Fargo, ND that runs high 11's. He has a webpage too, now I just gotta find it again.

Just saying anything is possible.

Not the same guy, but I know which car you are talking about with the SHO motor in it. That is a second Gen probe. I am a member over at probetalk...posted there alot.

Sold my 89pgt a few months back because one of my best friends needed a good, cheap, dependable car. I regret it cause even with 180k on it that was one of the most dependable cars I have ever owned.

The guy that is in Fargo has a common engine swap, can't remember the name of the motor however.

I miss my 95' GT, great car too. I loved the way it handled and the way it sounded with that sweet Borla cat-back. I'd still be driving it if I didn't a little one to tote around! :thumb:

I had a probe and the weight different is alot compared to the SHO. That is why they can run 11's. On probetalk I believe that there was only a handfull of highly modded turbos that could do this. Only the 4 cyls also and most had weight reduction. I am with Cartfan76 on his statement. Read some of the posts that were in the general forums here... BMW guys swore the SHOs came stock with a supercharger. One guy swore that he owned one or something but the superchargers were only on the 89's  . Anyhow until there is proof this thread is worthless...

It may be neat to think of but unrealistic in the real world until something surfaces. I find it alittle hard to see that this SHO on 20's runs almost 11 flat.

But it is not even close to hitting 11.2 in the 1/4 mile. Ask him what he thinks the odds of this GenIII existing :D
Other then the 20" tires which would raise the final drive ratio, which might work if he was pushing 500 maybe. Not sure if it would have enough torque to get those big heavy bad boys rolling at the velocity they would would need to be to drop it below the 12 mark. Trust me I know what it takes to just get 17" spinning fast enough to just get into the 12's, of course that's with a full 10:1 on 10 psi of boost and the necessary fuel mods to prevent the whole mass from melting down.
A big boost motor is probably decompressed to 8:1 or lower I would think, but then torque suffers a lot in that.
