Okay...so my tint guy asked me if I wanted heat protection or light protection. When I said heat protection, he showed me the 3M Chrystalline stuff. He was able to demo it for me. Apparently 3M has put a lot of R&D behind this stuff. So....I now have it applied to all my cars, ASAP. And today, I had him do the new baby. There are darker options, but I go with the 40% stuff.

The 40% looks good. Did you get the EyeBrow tint above the windshield?

No. I didn't have him so the windshield. And I think the windows were already tinted some from the factory...so it's darker than I think it would normally be

Does anyone have any recommendations for a tint shop in Chicagoland? I have very limited space where I park so I would much rather pay a professional than try the install with my doors halfway open and neighbors watching through their windows. Thanks

I have two to recommend. I have personally used both. In order of preference.....

1.) Located in Frankfort, IL. is Shockwave Customs. Owner is Anthony or "Tony".

    Website: http://shockwavecustom.com

2.) Located in Mokena, IL. is Abe's Custom Car Care. Owner is Abe.

    Website: http://abescustomcarcare.com

If you use either of the above, let them know that I referred you (& no, I get nothing for it) but just tell them that Mike with the black/white SHO says "hello". That's all.

    Good luck!

I have 5% Limo tint on my sides and rear window from the previous owner. It's so dark that I roll down my windows at night when I make turns from a stop to make sure there are no pedestrians I'm not seeing due to the tint.

Other than that worry, I love it. It's so nice in the early morning and late afternoon drives with the sun low on the horizon, especially since I drive north-south and the sun comes from the side. I have zero issues with headlights at night from tailgaters/trucks/whatever as well.

I've noticed that people with dark brown eyes tend to not care about bright lights or sunlight as much as those with blue and green eyes. I have green eyes and I always wear sunglasses in bright sun. I can hardly see anything without them. Even my 3 year old girl hates bright sunlight with her green eyes too, she happily wear sunglasses for hours when we are outside.

I'll ask an unrelated side question, how does your drivers side auto dimming mirror work? Does it dim at all at night for you?

My rear window is darker then the sides. By itself it still dims but if i have the back window cover up it dont dim. I think the side mirror dims the same as the rearview mirror. If you put your interior light on at the mirror for a minute the side mirror starts to dim also

You are corect that the interior rear view mirror controls the exterior driver's mirror dimming. The interior rear view mirror has two light sensors, one forward and one rearward. If it sees brigh light from the rear, and dark up front it dims and sends voltage to the drivers side exterior mirror to dim. With tint this would afect the ability of the interior mirror to do its job so I was curious about how you are seeing the exterior mirror operate. I really like the driver exterior mirror dimming function myself.
