of course i jest, but what would you think of that. it would eliminate that subpar ptu system. now i do realize the awd is a traction animal but it would still have a traction control. truly a four door mustang. has anyone thought of converting to rwd? i'm ready to take some shit for this post lol.

Honestly I think the AWD makes this car what it is. Without awd this would be a heavier mustang.

I'm not even sure he's still alive, but if I could, I'd bring a PTU to a machinist I used to know, and he'd bullet-proof it. In a way, I can't wait to get my hands on one myself just to see if I can figure out whatever it's problems are.

Seeing some last a long time, and others not, there has to be some sort of quality-control issue. Too much/too little preload on a bearing, incorrect contact pattern on what looks like a pinion and ring setup, something.

The lube turning to sludge is a symptom of something going wrong.

But yeah, a rear-wheel drive SHO, with the F150 Ecoboost, dang...

    If I was ford...

The Taurus should have never been transverse. It should have been rear wheel drive with the ability to transfer power to the front (like the GTR).

I would love to see a 3.5 Ecobeast with upgraded Turbos, 10 speed trans, and a bulletproof transfer case. Fully able to run Flex Fuel/E85, and match painted trim from the factory.

Rate it at 425 hp and 450 tq and let it sell.

That would be something. Ofcourse, my wife's 2013 SHO hit 120k last week. She so wanted a new SHO. But, since the block heads at Fomo did the dumbest thing they could ever do, I traded the sho on a new Genesis G70 3.3t rwd. I must say, it will flat run like a scalded dog. And luv the rwd!

Look at the Lincoln LS. RWD NA 3.9L V8 280hp/285ft/lb, or Duratec V6 with super rare manual transmission option. From 2000-2006, more than twice as many were produced as all 1989-1999 SHOs, or 4x as many per year as Ford Five Hundred SHOs.

    This cobra-swapped one makes 900HP:

I'd rather not be stuck on a barely sloping hill with 1/4" of snow though.

Loved the LS, never owned one, but would have been a cool add to the stable.

I suspect (and hope) that the next gen 4-door Mustang will bring back the SHO namesake.

Yes, but not a Taurus. Maybe a Thunderbird, with a smaller body, like the Fusion, and a 2-door option. And convertible...hard top. (I know I'm emulating my dream car, the Merc SL.)

    Smaller...lighter...faster... (but NOT a MUSTANG.)

I loved my 06. You can swap an 8.8 ring and pinion in the stock diff or I have seen a few fab up 8.8 housings in them for limited slip.

We had the 50's retro styling of the 2002+ Thunderbird, also built on the Lincoln LS's platform. But that was 17 years ago. We need to move forward in time for today's retro inspirations:

The 1974 Mercury Montego MX Villager. Six available engines included up to a 7.5L V8.

Or the Mercury Colony Park. Truly the greatest generation of cars, able to withstand Japanese competition even during an oil crisis...

Mustard green, orange, the classic colors of bathrooms and tupperware, accented with the woodiness of a penthouse smoking room, or at least the wood laminate of a government steel desk.
