I was putting some clamps on my old intake hoses and I remarked a number on the lower part of the front runners... It seems to be carved on the part, not molded on it.

Can someone tell me his number I'm wondering what it is. A engine production number will be cool. I put a photo to help finding yours.

The number on mine is 269. (Assuming my car was produced in the first months of the Gen 3, in 04/96, it could explain a lower number than most of others Gen 3 SHO. Don't forget the engine were produced in a different country by a different manufacturer. Thinking loud, as 3.4L was unique to Gen 3 SHO, it could tell me that mine is the 269th V8 SHO produced...)

    Thanks,
    #269.jpg

I have had literally hundreds of those intakes taken off the motor and in my hands.

I do not recall seeing that stamp on the part ever.

OK. I got a chance to look.

No. My Rosemist does not have any markings around there.

I also looked at a couple of my other 1996 engines and they had no marking either.
I also have probably 5 more sets of intakes, but I am at my Illinois house this weekend and the intakes are in a box at my Indiana house.

Is your engine welded? If so, by who? I know some camwelders marked their jobs in different ways.

I am on Vancouver Island off the coast of British Columbia, about half way up on the east side.

I have had mine apart a couple of times and do not remember such a stamping, but to be sure would have to go look again.

Thanks everyone. Don't understand this number came from...

Yes, my personnal mechanic welded it and I can swear this number was already there. No one works on this car, except me and my mechanic (a man with more than 40 years of experience).

It seems this is not related to car year and Canada production... very strange. Rental fleet ? Anti-theft number ? I don't have the full story of the car sadly...

What is the serial number on the engine?

    Maybe it is a replacement?

If the serial number is OVER 007000, it IS a replacement engine for a 1996.

Paul SHO'd you the serial number placement. What is this number please.

It's completely black, soaked by oil... It's possible to clean it ? It seems simple paper...

(Paul's car is very clean too !)

I havn't thought about this possibility, a replacement engine for a cam failure (probably)...

    Thanks,

Yes, one can clean it. Start with a degreaser like Simple Green or Purple Power. Be careful with strong solvents, you don't want to erase the numbers before you can read them.

Ok, I removed the sticker and cleaned it. Here is the number on it :

    KOC-001881
I understand that isn't confirming an engine replacement...
(By the way, can we assume that mine is the 1881 th SHO of the 5030 1996 production ?)
