Hey gang, been stalking the forums for a few weeks and figured I’d jump in as I’ve become entranced by the Taurus mystique.

I work as a cop (shhh don’t tell anyone) in a city. I was driving a 2017 interceptor SUV as my assigned duty vehicle when one day it was replaced with a brand new 2020 interceptor. it lasted 2 weeks and 1100 miles before it just died on me. I hated it anyway. New doesn’t mean good.

I was given permission to drive one of our last remaining 2014 Taurus’s (only 3). I had never driven one before but I figured why not. My personal car is a 2020 WRX, figured they might be similar. This Police interceptor Sedan has only 13k miles on it!

I made it all of 5 miles down the road before I fell in love. I mean it, I’ve never experienced anything like it. I’ve been driving it exclusively now for 2 months and am feeling one of two ways depending on the day. 1. Holy crap I get to drive this and no one else wants too! 2. Holy crap they are gonna get rid of this soon because no else wants to drive it.

Every day I hop in my WRX now, it feels like a toy. It’s bumpy and catchy, light and the steering doesn’t feel as solid. I’ve made the decision to start looking for a low mileage SHO as I want something with the creature comforts (warm butt, warm hands.) That rules out a Police surplus model.

I’m going to make it an aesthetic clone of the Interceptor. I’m trying to find out if there’s anything special I need or if I can just buy the interceptor black steel wheels and slap those bad boys on the SHO.

Its interesting that I never knew how much I was into vehicles and driving until I became a 5-0. Now I expect fun out of every vehicle I drive.

Lots of good info on here, you guys/gals seem to have a fantastic community with lots of passion. I’m happy to have found y’all. If I find a Taurus that suits my needs, y’all will be the first to know. Cheers!

Welcome! Personally I don't know anything about making an interceptor clone but I'm sure a lot of the other people on here do. If I recall right @SHOceptor has something similar to what you're looking to do, I don't think it would be too hard to do. The steering definitely is heavier than most cars. I had a 2014 SEL before the SHO and when I jump back into the SEL the steering feels so light. Personally I like the heavier feel. If I were you I'd definitely go for a SHO with options like you mentioned. There's so many little options like heated/cooled seats, heated back seats and steering wheel that make the biggest difference in daily driving comfort. Good luck!

Welcome and it sounds like you’ve already made up your mind. Not it’s just a matter of time until you snag one!

In the current climate I would just keep it a non clone for now. I want you and your personal vehicle to be safe up there. Welcome!
