    hey guys,

a few of you already know I bought a second pick up last month. starting in March I'm going to gut everything out of the cabs and disconnect everything to swap the cabs and beds between them. one truck runs really good, but has a super rusty cab and bed, the other truck is rust free but has some messed up wiring and a 302 with a blown head gasket.

was wondering if you all thought it'd be possible to maybe have a few of you guys come down to my place on a saturday and help me swap cabs and beds, it's pretty much the only part of the job I can't do by myself. everything will be stripped out, the doors will be off and all the bolts will be out. just gonna need a few guys to slide the beds off, grab onto the old cab and lift it onto some saw horses and then grab the rust free cab and put it on the truck, and then put the other cab on the other truck and the beds back on.

food and refreshments in the form of sodas and grilled food would be provided.

just trying to figure out if there's a weekend in April or May when you guys think it'd be good to do it.
    :munch:

If it was on a Sunday, I might say yes, but I work every Saturday so I have to say no to a Saturday.

Sounds like a hoot though, lol.

    alright.

the date we all decide on is the date I have to be done with my truck by.

of course this may all go right out the window next week if I end up having to go to Arizona for most of March.

    I know this!

I may end up having you come up and tackle a couple things like pulling out the dashes and doing a once over on the good harness before we put it in the white truck to make sure there aren't any problem areas.

I think we'll be able to leave the engine harness intact, we'll have to pull whatever's bolted to the firewall and fenders off, but that should be fine.

    body harness though...

We would've been pretty ****** without oxy/acetylene. Some bolts just needed a little heat to break free, others had to be cut. We ended up replacing a few cross-members too, so we used the torch to burn the heads off the factory rivets and then drove them out with an air hammer.

I've got an oxy/acetylene set up on my work truck but theres no way in hell I'm transporting the bottles in my car and I don't feel like making the trip in a freightliner that gets 6mpg.

    oh, I could get em.

I've just been spoiled by rust free vehicles in Phoenix the last chunk 'o years.

oxy torch isn't an issue of how hard to get it.

my boss just let me know the chances of spending the entire month of March down in Phoenix and if that happens it may put things off till may.

I want to get it done as soon as I can though, i've just never swapped a cab before. a bed or a front clip is super easy, and I don't think the cab has more than 4 bolts holding it to the frame, but there's gonna be a lot of labelling and cleaning and time intensive little stuff keeping me busy until it comes time to swapping the cabs.

it needs to be done this year. I don't want to be staring at a non running vehicle anymore, it hasn't been driven in over a year due to my lack of time to dick with it and the sheer pain in the ass with the wiring in the white one being so jacked up.
