I thought about getting a performance chip to boost horsepower and get better MPG. I want to know if they are worth the money and will they actually work and not over work the engine. I have a 1991 SHO 129000 miles.

Agreed, the pre-programmed chips are pointless. A tuner will allow you to play with things yourself, but as loudsho92 points out, with all stock setup there is virtually no gain to be had as the factory tune is pretty solid.

Thanks guys. I will just leave my car alone. One more question. The K&N filters, are they worth the money? or I should say are they worth putting in the car?

I like having them especially for the longer interval cleanings.

^^This is for your newer generation SHO. His naturally aspirated 91 is a different animal.

I wouldn't bother with any fancy bolt ons or K&N filters. To really go noticeably faster you would have to do extensive modifications beyond exhaust and tune. You would need more displacement/higher compression/ forced induction--something like that. You should save your cash for maintenance. You have a 27yr old car. It's going to need stuff repaired or replaced.

This thread is about the Gen 1 and 2 cars. Not the ecoboost. Further more, it was over 3 years dead when you posted and brought it back to life.
