    Hello all.

I bought a 2018 SHO about a year ago. I recently tuned it with a gearhead tune, put new plugs, t-stat, and map sensor. It has been running great and I have enjoyed it a lot. However, just the other day, I was driving around and sat idling for a while after. When I went to start driving again, a bunch of white smoke came out the exhaust and covered the road behind me. It seemed to go away as I drove it, so I didn’t think of it again.

I haven’t driven the car for the past week, but I remote started the car and it puffed white smoke for about 5 minutes before I started driving. Once I started driving, it seemed to go away. However, once I stopped, white smoke was coming out from the front of the car. I put my flashlight on it and it looked like the downpipe has a wet spot on it(oil or coolant possibly?). I drove the car a bit more and there was less smoke but the car definitely smelled off. I was thinking that it might be oil draining into the turbo from sitting for a while as it is a low mount(didn’t know if that was crazy or not but doesn’t make sense why it would only have started recently).

The boost doesn’t seem to be much less than normal. Are there any other things I can do to identify what the root problem is? I just want to make sure it is not a cracked engine block or blown head gasket. Any tips/tricks you have would be very helpful.

    Thanks all!

    Caleb

It's under warranty. Can you flash it back to stock and take it in?

I was thinking that, but didn't want any trace of the tune showing up if they scanned it. Will that show up?
Also, I have a 170 t-stat, smaller gapped plugs, and 3 bar map sensor. If I put the map sensor back to stock will that work when I flash back to stock?

    Thanks for the help.

I think it should run fine. If they look they can tell how many times its been started i think but I wouldn't worry about it. Then again I'm not in your position so easy for me to say. I would swap the map, flash it back and take it in if it was my car.

I think that is what I am going to do. Hoping for the best. Thanks a lot.

Good luck. If they give you any crap you can always pull it out of there and go somewhere else or try yourself. I assume this is a daily driver so you may need it faster than what you can do on your own. Post back with what the issue is. If it gets narrowed down someone here can help.

I just looked at the photo. Have you checked the coolant and oil for level change or contamination?

Just keep an eye on the oil and coolant levels just incase. Mine smokes alots but i think thats just the way they are. As 2 gen 4s and 3 engines, they always smoked for a few minutes in spring.

    Possibly bad turbo?
I agree, flash to stock and hit the dealership. I took mine in twice for warranty work. Both times they did not mention or care about performance parts. I ever asked is adding something like EPP hot pipes would effect my warranty and they said "The EPP pipes would not be covered but everything else still would"

    Thanks all for the feedback.

I started it up today(it is around 40 degrees) and nothing seemed to be wrong with it. Started up fine, ran fine, no smoke, no smell. Boost seems to be around 13-15 which seems normal.
The last time I started it up and it smoked it was warmer(probably around 60-65)

I'm grasping at straws but could this have something to do with the oil in the car? Does it possibly thin out too much when the weather warms up?

Just seems very weird that everything works like normal when it is cold out.

My SHO and my ST occasionally smoke at start up. I turn Castrol Edge in both of them are the recommended oil weight. If it happens occasionally I wouldn't worry about it too much honestly.
