Aloha from Hawaii. I found this forum after having problems with my SHO. So far I’ve had my PTU, water pump, and oil pressure switch had to be replaced. I’m happy with the design but I’m disappointed with the workmanship. I guess coming from Toyota’s I expected to much regarding reliability. Don’t get me wrong, if this car had the reliability of a Toyota I would be the happiest customer and would buy another one in the future, but I may just go back to Toyota just because of the reliability when it’s time for a new car. I am here to find out what more problems to expect and maybe prevent it from happening.

Welcome, sorry to hear of the problems. Would help to know the maintenance history and driving conditions. I would consider Hawaii to be an "extreme" environment compared to most of the mainland USA, and thus maintenance schedules to be more special operating condition than normal operating condition.

That said, what Toyota are you comparing the SHO to in terms of reliability?

After reading through this forum I wish I would of know how the factory required maintenance schedule was wrong. But be assured I will be increasing fluid changes to prevent anymore break downs. So again it’s Fords fault in my mind.

I’ve had a 4Runner, Sequioa, and now a Tacoma. Both 4Runner and Sequioa were used over 100000 miles. The only problem I’ve ever had with them was the evap core and paint job.

Comparing Ford to Toyota you're going to be very disappointed especially with their truck platforms as the baseline. You have to look at what you are getting into these days.
Alot of highly regarded makes have problems. Drill down before you pull the trigger. It is harder to just point to a maker and know that whatever you buy from them it will be bulletproof. Not anymore.

Higher performance and more complex engine & driveline usually = more problems. That's still usually true.

I agree somewhat. When it comes to diesel then American all the way. But with my experience with all American trucks and Toyota ive had more problems with American trucks. I’m guessing that’s why all the terroists in the Middle East use Toyota. Lol.
