I have on more than one occasion seen the speedo pass the 135-140 mark, needle still moving quickly! However at those speeds I was more focused on where I was going than how fast I was going. Way too fast for a Taurus:nut:

You should see how telephone poles look like a picket fence in the 180+ range..... o_O

Our interpretation of "needle still moving quickly" at that speed is probably very different. :)

Yea, I've had my Mustang pull hard to ~140mph on Grattan Raceway it showed no signs of letting up, I was just out of straightaway. In the SHO ('95 ATX) I've managed about 125mph a few times, but again run out of road. That was back when I was a dumb teenager, now I only exceed 100mph if I'm on a track.

Over 150 indicated on the speedo in SHO R T S a few years ago, governor deactivated. But of course, it was in Mexico, on an unmarked road, and there are no videos when the NSA reads this thread....

Back when I was young and dumb I buried the needle pretty far into 5th with my N2O 93' so I'm guessing 150's ish. It felt pretty unstable and light in the front end as these cars were not meant for that kind of speed. My much heavier 08' Impala SS felt much the same way at around 135 mph. Nowadays you won't find me setting the cruise at anything above 80mph. I'd rather spend my money on other things besides speeding tickets.

My old 95 3.2 MTX managed to bury the speedo, and to be honest it was frightening.

I've hit an indicated 138 in my P71 despite the supposed 130mph factory limiter, and it was rock solid and smooth as a baby's ass.

Oh, and I've experienced that weird "no wind noise" zone between 110 &130 in my old 98.

Most of the active members are down south near Vancouver WA. There's a picnic/get together each summer/fall. This year it was during a track day in Portland this past October. Sign up on the local yahoo group SHO list or look on the Shosource/GI SHO Racing/Nwshoc Facebook pages for pictures. There are a few of us up here in Seattle.

SHO speedos aren't that accurate. For that matter, neither are the tachs. Stock, mebbe 145 regardless of what the gauges say.

So what? these are 80s-era cars. Soccermomobiles do 14s stock and 140+ nowadays.

those soccer mobiles weren't built in 1989 and can't be bought for less than a set of tires.

how many $500-1000 cars that can go 140mph are around Ron?

now... I'm not saying its the best show of intelligence to go buy your average $500-1000 SHO and then immediately bury the speedometer.

I did with the first one I bought, but I practically stole it paying $500 for it when I should have paid $1500, and it scared the ever loving crap out of me when the speedo needle went full sweep.

Buried the speedo many times... I used to do 130+ everyday on the stretch by my old house knowing no cops could sit there. . My 92 would cruise along like I was in everyday driving doing 60.. konis and intrax cut coils with a bunch of other suspention mods including sfcs and it rode great. . My rs3's felt great
