I’m looking for new color changing headlamp bulbs for car shows and meets and was wondering how we can tell on our cars if they are halogen or HID? Also temping about sending out my DRL to get customized for the rgb use

If you can see t he rear of the headlight assembly, you can see the large 2 or 3 wire push/pull type plug if its a standard incandescent bulb. If you see a "box" or a twist on plug on the back or the bottom it should be HID. Connectors are totally different. You could also check by VIN number at dealership. The "box" or ballast should be on the bottom of the headlight assembly.

When you turn the headlights on at night to they get really bright and dimm down, or do they just turn on and stay at the same intensity.

HID lamps will get brighter on start up as the arc is initiated and will reduce in intensity as the arc is maintained.

Your owners manual should also tell you. If you dont have it, you can download it from cords owner website

That plug looks like turn signal bulb. If you do change headlight colors, make sure state law allows them. Indiana is only yellow (amber) and white lights on fronts, amber/white/red on back.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to need to get a kit to covert it from hid to led due to the high voltage

Welp there goes that idea can’t switch to led bulbs with the HID without doing a whole harness and reprogram of the BCM dam HID

There are now LED products that replace the stock HID product. Plug n play, mostly. And work well, per those who have tested them recently.

I'm guessing you replace the HID bulbs AND ballasts with the LED bulbs. The Ballasts are what raises the voltage. With them removed, you should have a 12 volt signal to the LED bulbs

But in the electrical system there is a module for the hid to command the voltage not just the ballast it a module going to the BCM

If you have adaptive headlamps the h.c.m. is what comands the lamps left and right. For the operation of the lamp, the bcm just provies a signal to the ballast. That ballast has a separate power and ground off the top of my head.
