Hi folks, my replacement engine showed up and it looks like it's a 2014 if I'm correct by the sticker. My car is a 2011. Can anyone tell me if this will work or if I'll have to change a bunch of the sensor's.[IMG]

you will have to SWAP over a bunch of the 2011 sensors to the 2014, and the crankshaft tone ring as well. there are threads detailing the projects also.

This is my first EcoBoost project. Can you tell me where this time ring is located? Does the timing chain cover need to be removed?

It's on the crankshaft for the crank sensor to read as it spins. If you remove the crankshaft pulley/ harmonic balancer you will see it. One model has more teeth than the other & won't read properly.

There is a thread on here with side by side pics I think

From the post below it looks like this ring is on the rear of the engine (flex plate side) where the starter engages. Am I correct on that?

I assume the crankshaft sensor is on the front of the engine with all the timing components. Not sure where the flex plate came from unless you looked at a confusing looking diagram online that I have seen on a google search.

The crank tone wheel is on the timing/pulley side of the engine.

You got this thing in the car or on a stand? Yes the timing cover covers the timing components in the front on the engine. To get access to timing components you must remove the cover and anything else that interferes with access. This isn't ecoboost specific it's almost all modern engines.
I've seen a camshaft turn the waterpump located on the back flywheel side and that is timing sorta related, but that is not the normal setup and all the important timing components were still located in front

The engine is out of the car. I have a lift in my garage so that was pretty easy to drop. I see the crank sensor on the rear if the engine and the pulse wheel behind it now. I pulled the intake and all valves are covered in gunk and oil crud. Looks like the failed turbos sent a lot of oil downstream. Looks like I'll have to pull both heads and clean them up. Not sure if the crud accounts for the low compression on 2 cylinders however. I may have 2 problems.[IMG]

Yuk. Well is your replacement engine new or used? I assume you have to send the original as a core if replacement is new or reman?

The compression leak is coming from the valve. In the video I have my leak down tester at 50 psi and the air is pouring around the valve. I added oil to show bubbles. [IMG]

Opinions on chain stretch here? Looks like the updated chain and someone has been in here before based on pen marks. 20181121_155545.jpeg

My information is that the EcoBoost tone ring is on the flywheel end of the engine, under the flex plate.

You are correct. I've seen it with my own eyes.

No core charge. I was hoping to have an easy fix on the current engine but no luck. I pulled the head and 2 cylinders (5 and 6) are scored. So it would need piston and rings assuming the scoring could be honed out.
