Drive Shaft Catistrophic Failure

    - Fear is relative to what you are accustomed too, I spent most of my life at sea and I can scare the hell out of most people in a boat/ship and feel perfectly safe. On the other hand I bungee jumped once and have no plans on ever doing it again. Maybe fear is the wrong word, I can understand that you don't believe me but the older you get the more you respect the life you have, just my two cents.
    - From a branding stand point Ford may have made a mistake calling it an EcoBoost and putting it in trucks. It really is an amazing little motor that makes a lot of horsepower in a very efficient way. The truth is its a performance motor that also gets good gas mileage not a gas mileage motor that performs. It would make a great motor for lots of projects. For me the only real down side is it will never sound as good as a push rod V8.
    - My understanding high speed is all about aerodynamics and I wanted a road trip car so my SHO is perfect for me but if I won the lottery I would buy a wrecked SHO and hire someone find away to turn a kit car into a mid-engine AWD super car. Can you imagine an AWD GT40!

    i can indeed image such a thing, just reverse the entire drive line 180 degrees and flip the gears the opposite direction. easier said then done of course.

    i understand the respecting life, i just dont want to miss anything before i lose it, and if i lose it trying some new thrill, well i guess i can just ope it went quick. im sure my view will change again, as it is not wat it once was now, and wont be the same after further experiance.

    I routinely get my girl up in the 110-120 range on a relatively flat and straight stretch of Kansas county blacktop, and have taken it to 135 on the Kansas Turnpike. It does indeed start feeling a little light once past the century mark, but feels a bit better after the coilovers went on. My runs at these speeds are brief and only on clear roads, as I also appreciate the idea of longevity now that I'm statistically on the short end of the life clock. I cannot imagine taking this car to 170, it just doesn't seem designed for that king of speed. I watch the hood start ballooning at 110 and a good Kansas gust will move the car SIGNIFICANTLY and very quickly if not totally attentive. 110-120 I feel comfy with, I routinely hit those speeds in airplanes and can react appropriately. I might consider 150 or so IN THE SHO with proper safety gear on a track, but if I want to go faster than that I think I'll stick do doing it in something really designed for those speeds and with wings on it! Because, at the end of the day....NOBODY EVER DIED COLLIDING WITH THE SKY LOL!

    Hood vents and pins seem to be in your future, young'un! Look to bpd1151's SHO for inspiration.

    that is rather long and slender for a driveshaft, so I can see why it didn't like the high rpms. I agree with the carbon fiber route. You just need to have someone do the math and make sure that whatever rpms it is going to see are lower than the natural frequency of the shaft.

    Ahhhhhhhhhh! It becomes clear now. I've secretly wondered what the deal with the vents on BPD1151's beast were about, just didn't want to sound stoooooopid asking! Makes complete sense now......may have to look into something like those.

    Yep, there is quite a bit of background thought process to the majority of my mods, and some semblance of rational employed as well.

    I don't just go tossing $h!t on for no reason.

    But the hood vents became a reality when I started contemplating underhood temps a few years back. Like in 2012/13, and the resulting effects of heat soak therein.

    After having installed them, cutting the holes open into the OEM hood compromised it's overall structural integrity. Which in turn, made the proveribial vertical hood flopping at speeds into the triple digits, become even more pronounced.

    Motoring down the expressway one day (in Mexico ofcourse, lol) I can't even remember what the hell car it was, but the driver wanted to play. I laughed, punched it, and walked all over them. However, when clipping past 150mph, the hood shaking was violent. 152, 153.....then 157 blamo! The primary latch on the hood let up, I nearly $h!t myself as the secondary latch caught, and I de-celled rapidly.

    Holy hell!

    Well it took all of that day for me to start researching hood pins, and then me buttering up my local body shop to custom install them. Never been a problem since.
