You will research that almost any aftermarket catback really makes these cars sound like crap. The exhaust tone is terrible and the rasp is a problem.

The money you spend on a cat back, you could get a pair of DP's instead and actually get better sound and performance. The stock mufflers actually flow very well.

That being said, I am actually in the process of modifying my exhaust. I am removing the 3rd cat and stock resonator and replacing it with a Magnaflow resonator. Should in theory be little bit louder and have no rasp.

Before you pull the trigger on a catback, you might want to wait see what mine sounds like with the new set up. Should be done today or tomorrow.

I will have video of the old set up and new set up.

    Old set up:

PPE catted DP's, stock 3rd cat and stock resonator, into stock mufflers.

    New set up:

PPE catted DP's, MagnaFlow Resonator, into stock mufflers.

I will also be waiting. I already have the dp's. Was trying to figure out what to do next to increase flow.

She is done. I picked her up late so I didnt get video yet. However I do have pics.

So far Sound did not change much. Zero drone, and it seems I recovered some more boost. Car runs hard.

Stock 3rd cat and stock resonator.

3rd Cat removed and added Magnaflow resonator.

Stock setup can be bolted right back into place.

I dont have a stock idle video with the just the DP's. To me the sound didnt chang much.

Here is a video of my ghost cam tune with DP's, 3rd cat, stock resonator, and stock mufflers.

Here is a video of the new set up. DP's, Magnaflow Reso, and Stock muffers.

Here is a video of the new set up with the ghost cam tune. I don't think it sounds as good as the first video.

Overall I am happy. Sound didn't change much (except the ghost cam), I did recover more boost (which isn't a good thing because I am out of fuel pump completely now) and there is ZERO DRONE! I like I how it sounds so that is a plus.

Did you do any research on the benefit or lack there of with an X or H pipe where the third cat once resided as opposed to straight to the resonator?

I didnt. I am taking some videos. One thing I know the ghost cam tune does not sound as good with the new resonator. Car does run alot harder however.

I look forward to hearing it. Taking the guts out of mine is on my list. The reason I asked is because that seems like a natural place for one to be to equalize back pressure. I saw an old hot rod guy one time talking about using a crayon line down the exhaust to find the best spot for the crossover. Wherever the line stopped melting is where he put the H.

Videos are added. I haven't done much research about x or y or h pipes on FI cars.

I’m kind of surprised no one makes a bolt in kit to eliminate the third cat. For those looking for a little more sound without buying a whole new exhaust

    Thanks for sharing!

I am going to stay with the current exhaust setup as it sounds better outside the car than inside-a bit of a shocker to me!
