Big day today for my black/black plus (bandito). Jason finally got the drivability stuff dialed in last weekend. So after getting it unstuck from the snow in his driveway this morning we spent the afternoon at the dyno.

Glad we got you up and running. Honestly, this car was pretty easy to tune and it sucks you had to wait so long prior to me getting in touch with you. :) A week before the dyno, I put my butt dyno guess at 420whp, so it's good to see that isn't too out of whack after moving to higher altitude.

Here is a video I got with a couple of your pulls:

A little reflection... The last real dyno I put my SHO on was at this shop and exactly 10 years ago this month. I had a lot more done to my car, with more boost, but I was also on 91 octane, running out of injector, and dealing with secondary issues at the time. That said, here is a comparison. 10+ years ago, that was "big boy" power. I'm not sure why the dyno operator didn't put his highest dyno up against mine, but as you can see... CLOSE. E85 is good stuff.

    Awesome...

If I was ever lured back into an old SHO (would be 90/91) it’d need to be something like this, same color too. That thing must be a blast to drive on the highways.

Ahh I get it. I can be a little slow sometimes. Lol

It’s definitely a little faster than it has ever been. But still running happily. Btw I’m planning to change the wheels pretty soon so you’ll have to keep an eye out to keep track of it still.

I always liked Bandito as well. Worked on her many years ago. She still looks great!

I am hoping this car will see some roll racing at Street Car Takeover this year. I have another customer that ran last year, that should be doing it again... It's a lot of fun. I hope to see more roll racing events happen here as they have become pretty popular in Omaha as you get to go run your car up, without absolutely thrashing it. And people like me... Can't drag race for shit.

Hopefully we'll see how this fairs against my S2000 in a roll race. :p

Im hoping your s2000 isn’t ready for that race just for that reason.
I would probably keep up with the sti. :poke:

I would not count on keeping up with the STi either. It makes a bit more average torque/power (and peak) than the SHO. ;)

Oh, I know you’d win... Just saying we might not need buses to measure the outcome of that race. gotta poke the bear once or twice too. :thumb:

Honestly, I'm not sure which car will be faster in a straight line since I'm going to limit the power on the S2000 due to it being a road race car. That said, it's easy to up the boost on both of my cars. :) I don't even have to get dirty! :p

New numbers today after a 3" pulley was installed. Derek also moved the idler pulley for more belt wrap like I had on my car and installed and hardwired a Walbro 460 LPH pump in the tank.

If you're thinking about running one of these... DON'T!

What do you want to know about it? I’ve never actually made a formal build thread. This thread is the closest I have to one.

If you want to read a book here is pretty much the history that I know, basically my dream car is the car I have now. This is my 4th first gen Sho. My last three were taken due to others negligent driving and were totaled by insurance. I was trying to build my dream car this time that hopefully I will be able to hold onto. The planned build was and streetable car with all working accessories including A/C and I knew I wanted a real Sho plus that was supercharged. I searched for a while for one that was black/black and in decent shape and already had some mods that I wanted. This one came up on the forum for sale by YZF ford and was on track to my goal. So i flew out to North Carolina to meet him and drove it the 1500 miles back to Colorado. The car was also owned by greanbeanmtx before YZF ford and I’m not positive on the whole history but I believe him and area 91 built the engine that is still in the car now. I also believe it was grean bean who gave it the name bandito. But they probably know more of the back story than me. When I bought it it had konis and eibach springs, Jose short shifter, 3.2 swap, basically a good start. It looked pretty close to the same as it does now. After I bought it I installed a Shosource catback, wilwood 6 piston brakes with cobra rotors, swapped interior with a cleaner black 50/50 interior, battery relocation to the trunk and somewhere along the lines it got Shosource coilovers, adjustable rear control arms and a few other goodies and other repairs it needed. I enjoyed the car for a while and watched for the parts I needed to build what I really wanted the car to be. I found a wavetrac diff and pulled the trans and installed the wavetrac along with a spec clutch. The whole time I was searching for a vortech kit. I ended up finding a lead on one on the Facebook group from Tim. It came with Sho shop injectors, 80 mm maf, the vortech s trim with a 3.8 in pulley and piping to run non intercooled, and what I would call a basic setup for the water/air intercooler. It also came with a chip that was tuned for the car the kit was removed from. I bought it installed the kit and with a 255 lph fuel pump. Since the chip was tuned for a different car I wasn’t real happy with the way everything was running on mine so I ended up deciding the car had to be retuned. I upgraded the kit since it had to be tuned anyway so I added a smaller vortech pulley with carbonite racing coating that was 3.33 in, thinking it would be enough boost for me... I changed the injectors to injector dynamics 725’s (because I wasn’t planning on running e85 at the time), updated the intercooler setup with a new aluminum reservoir, new pump, and braided hoses. I also swapped out the MAF for a PMAS slot style MAF in a 3 in housing. At that point the car wouldn’t run anymore on the chip I had and it sat for over a year while I was waiting for another tuner to even get the car to start. That tuner ended up closing his shop and telling me I had to come get my car.

Then I picked up the car and got into contact with Jason(YamahaSHO). We switched it to e85 and he tuned it within a month which got me to the point of the first dyno sheet at 425 whp and great driveability. After that it came up that for a few hundred bucks with more boost and fuel pressure I could potentially get it to 500 whp. So i swapped the pulley to a 928 motorsports sure grip 3 in pulley relocated the idler pulley for more belt wrap as jason had done on his car in the past and installed a bigger 460 LPH fuel pump that is hardwired to the battery on a relay which got it to the point it is now. 15 psi boost pressure, 50 psi base fuel pressure.
    498.7 hp at the wheels.

I also currently have parts and am working on installing new slotted stoptech rotors and race pads for all four corners and big brake kit with new calipers on the rear. Poly bushings for front and rear suspension along with new front control arms. I also have 18x8 tsw nurburgrings in matte bronze with 245-40-18 bridgestone re71r tires which will all be done before my tune is finished up by Jason in the next few weeks.

After the surprise of how much the supertrapp mufflers drop my HP I will also be swapping them for a Borla straight through muffler and traditional exhaust tip. Then we will see what the future has to hold for this car.

    Hopefully that answers everybodys questions.

I'm so happy to see the oll girl doing so well! To expand on its history a bit, I'll tell you what I know. A good high school friend bought the car when we were 15 years old. That was around 2000. He named it Bandito. His name on this forum was Cyanmauve. He hasn't been on here in years and I have lost touch with him. He did the suspension/brake upgrades and it had sho shop mods at that point. He also did one of the first Jose shifters in the car. My girlfriend ( now wife) road in the back seat of this car with me on may double dates and road trips just out of high school in 2003. Fast forward to 2005, he let me know he was selling it. I had owned 3 prior so I made the means to own the car I always wanted. I owned it for about a year and got hungry for another Corvette and sold it like an idiot. It still had the original 3.0 when I had it and was at roughly 190k miles. I did rod bearings myself and I put the 5 spokes on it. Here are the last pics I have of it. She was a beaut Clark! And just to make sure I validate I'm still a car guy... the explorer in the background last pic was my Dads who passed away in December. The last pic is what it looks like now. It's been in the family for years and now has a small lift, 31's. I wish Bandito was sitting beside it still, but I'm glad she got brought back to life!
