I don't see many SHO's around here, I know where a few are but I got passed by a black 13+ on West Norfolk Road today. The guy was out for a cruise, had all the windows down and was enjoying the day. I pulled up beside him but he was looking straight ahead and paid no attention to me. I got to say I did find that a little strange, how often do you find two black SHO's on the same road at the same time. Kind of like riding my Harley its polite to at least acknowledge fellow traveler. Oh well I guess where not all car guys.

My daily driver is a Jeep Wrngler 2 door. Used to be lots of goodwill waves back in the day (my fourth Jeep). Not so much anymore. Too many distractions maybe.

Lets be honest, when you first started driving a Jeep I bet you could go a long time before saw another Jeep. Now everyone has one, and you would spend all your time waving. Same thing with 4x4 trucks, used to be they where all special ordered an you never saw one now there all 4x4.

Good point. With something as much of a niche vehicle as my Gen 2 SHO, however, I am hoping for lots of waves. Maybe even a dedicated parking spot.

LMAO Same here I am baffled by the fact there where two black SHO's on the same road, at the same time, going the same direction, and the guy didn't even wave. Anyway the world I came from you have to be a pretty high up on the food chain to get a parking spot, I was lucky if I didn't have to hike half way across the base to park.

I miss riding and seeing another riding and giving the customary hand wave of acknowledgement. I also miss the nods and thumbs up I used to get with the Cobra before I sold her. With the SHO I've seen some 10-12's and 13-up on the road and never anything from them. Most I get is the looks of "that's a Taurus?!?!?" Or "they came back with the SHO?!?!?" When I pass other cars.

I hear ya... but it's not like the 4th gen sho has anywhere near the almost cult like following of the Gen1 and Gen2...

Now those were freaking awesome in the day... to hear the secondaries open up and that Yamaha motor scream while it passed most cars of that era... that was awesome...

There has been a SHO in the family since well... 1989! My pops had a silver one... then he had a gen2 red one, then a gen3 black (which to this day says it was a turd...) and now I have a gen4....

Funny thing is, he has had a ton of muscle cars throughout his life but two he still talks about was his 1968 super bee which ran low 10's and his 1989 SHO... not bad company to be included with!

You're right about that. They do garner a following. I've always read of them and never really seen one modified in person. Although I've heard plenty of stories about that Yamaha motor. I never really cared too much for the body design myself honestly. I didn't consider a Taurus as a car I'd ever own until the '10 model was talked about and what sold me was the engine and AWD system and that fact it was a ford although I haven't quite made up my mind if my next car play car will be a ford or not. It's between two euros, BMW M6 or Audi S5/RS5, or a 13-14 GT500 unless the one coming out in '18 is going to be a game changer. I do miss the sound of a throaty V8 especially my old mustangs or cobras I've owned.

    - They have a little get together Thursday afternoon at a Dairy Queen up the road, its a bunch of assorted Classic an Muscle cars, actually have some nice cars. I have been thinking of stopping in but new cars are a little out of place there, the ironic thing is I would be one of the quickest cars in the lot.

-I have a yard full OF cars but all high miles and only important to me, and I needed something decent if I wanted to take a trip. I wanted a truck but everything decent was around 30000 or had really high miles, I look around the internet a lot in fact its pretty much a hobby of mine searching out cars that I would buy if I won the lottery. I will say this much, for the money you can not buy a better car then the GEN4 SHO. IMHO People just don't know what they are so there is not a huge demand for them, there not cheap but you get a whole lot for your money by comparison.

I see a fair amount of new SHOs. I think some people buy them because they're the "nice AWD Taurus".

Richmond has a lot more snow then the Tidewater, because of the AWD you do see more SHO's in areas with bad weather in fact my car came out of Ohio somewhere. They are still pretty rare when you compare the numbers, but I get your point.

I should start a new thread for this BUT I think all the people who pay attention to the Tidewater SHO Club Forum are already following this thread so here I go. Anyone know a trustworthy person or company in Tidewater/Hampton Roads who does car audio installation. I am looking at doing some upgrading an so far the two shops I have spoken with have pissed me off, not only did they want to pick my pocket for every dime, but they where kind of lazy. I don't mind spending some money and I even expect a certain amount of being taken advantage of but at least put some effort in to it. For now I am just doing a speaker install, and unless you folks know something Best Buy is my best option. Thanks in advance for any help and have a great day.

If you're just doing speaker a speaker install I may be able to lend you a hand depending on when you're trying to get it done. I was the master tech over at the greenbrier store for 4 years after getting out of the military. Other than that the places I would look at is gohoaudio, and more than likely Best Buy since they offer a "lifetime" warranty on all their work performed. So if anything goes wrong with it they will trouble shoot it for free. What are you trying to accomplish?

All this feedback is from Va Beach and Norfolk area experience. Goho as far as I know is out of business. I see Audio One has moved in. GOHO was my go to place as well. I've had so so experience at Audio One, Rage N' Car Audio and Dynamic Car Audio and Security. Curious about soundwave customs on avenger drive as they are doing more custom and even motorized stuff like you used to see back when aftermarket car audio was a much bigger industry. As far as charging for work, I think that business model has really gone down in volume of business and profitability in the last 10-15yrs. Best Buy might be a decent option for plug and play depending on how delicate the door panels are. That's always been an issue with the early cars.

    - In general I am just trying to improve the sound of the stock system, it sounds great until about half volume then it gives up. Eventually I want to swap all the speakers but for now I am doing the front component speakers and rear deck speakers, depending on how that turns out I may want to amp the rear deck subs, but I am going to wait till the new Rockford DSR1 integration comes out. If as they have indicated it works with the Sony system that may be a very affordable way to upgrade.
    - I have mixed feelings about Soundwave, I don't want to get into it here and I may go back to them for something but I would not recommend them outright. Yes volume for most shops has gone down but they don't seem to care about the little jobs. In general it seems like unless you are doing a complete stereo build most of the sound shops don't have any time for you and are going to charge you for everything.
-I would have never thought this but I think Best Buy is going to be the best place to install the speakers I want, they price is reasonable and its a National Chain so at least you will be able to find someone to complain too if it goes south. Thanks for the input so far.

I've been out of the game for awhile now really only dealing with family cars as well as my mustang buddies. Goho may be out of business but as luigisho said, the game has changed. With cars coming out with just about everything the average user may possibly need there is less of a demand and following. Pair with that the complication arises with the complicated systems that are being placed into these vehicles so most shops probably wouldn't work on them unless there was more involved to make more money. I've heard decent things about sound wave and seen some of their work at some of the shows and they look pretty damn good. But that purely on a "visual" level. I judge a shop by how they run their wires and the attention to detail they put into each build paired with how well the system perform. Too many times I've seen shops put things together that look good to an untrained eye but then you start catching the little things. Like signal wires running in parallel with power wires, ground wires sharing a ground with something else, etc.

Op, it sounds like you're on the right track. Best Buy may be the best option for you. I'm also waiting for a good integration to come out so that I can get better sound out of my system and start upgrading the audio. I miss the heavy hit of subs. I wasn't a bass head. I always went for SQL over SPL but there are songs that you know should have a "hit" to it but the song system does not scratch that itch.

I am in Churchland myself. I'm not sure if you saw me, but I had the white and pink Focus ST. I just traded it in for a silver '14 SHO. I, too, am looking for SHO owners to hang out with in the area. I have 3 other Mustangs, a '87, "95 and '11.

    - Hey there and Welcome to the SHO, LOL I seem to remember seeing the white/pink Focus but to be honest its not a real clear memory, there is one other guy who lives over by Chesapeake Square he has a white one I have chatted with him a few times, there was also a guy who worked at Tread Quarters next to Harris Teeter but I have not seen him in awhile. There are a few more around here but I think they just drive them not play.
    - Now that it has cooled off I was thinking of heading out to the Dairy Queen next to the mall, and look at the muscle cars maybe we can get a few SHO's to go. Nice to have tuner in the family, I have Down Pipes but no tune yet, the 10-12 don't have the best brakes so a brake upgrade may be my next project. Anyway nice to have you around, yes its nice to have someone to share information with.
