I have a 1996 SHO. I purchased it a few years ago. Last month the speedometer would start to bounce. That was fine for a day and then the transmission would randomly shift causing high RPMs. It is undriveable. Does anyone know of a place that can rebuild the ABS module or where I can purchase a used one? I understand FORD does not make these anymore. Thanks,

Hi Toledogt,

Are you sure it's the ABS module ? Because ABS sensors break more often than this module. But few modules broke too (Bosch).

Replacement modules will be in scrapyard most likely (finding a new one will be very lucky). However, one owner was able to repair his some years ago. The very small weldings into it just broke.

Before going to the module, be sure to verify all your ABS sensors because they give the speed metering to the ECM.

(Just for my curiosity, is your 96 SHO is silver ? The earliest known Gen 3 SHO was a silver in OHIO...)

Hello,
I am pretty certain the ABS is bad but now I will check the speed sensors. The ABS light is on as soon as you start the car. Not sure if that is an indicator of ABS module or the sensors. This car is not silver but black. It is the stock black which in 1996 is metal flake ish. The 98 I had was just dark black. The 1996 is a lot nicer looking. I need to get this fixed and back on the road! Any help is appreciated.

Hello E1 and gamefanatic. Here is the update. It was the ABS sensor. I picked it up at the shop today and drove it home. About 2 miles. Slow speeds because school was out and kids were all walking home.

The ABS unit they removed had all the pins. The one pictured above has less than all the pins. They were never there to begin with.

The first ABS I purchased had all the pins. It was installed and did not work.
The second ABS looked like the one above with missing pins. The shop was hesitant to try but after showing them the above photo and a .pdf from a previous thread they tried it. Success.

I will drive it around this weekend.

Definitely a win there. I believe there is a difference in the modules about half way through '97 or '98.

It's more than probable. Because computer language had changed between 97 and 98. So can we say :

96-97 : 17 teeth
98-99 : 28 teeth (?)

E1, it's strange that your 1996 module has a '98 part number on it... (F8DC-...). (I'm just trying to figure out.)

That is weird. Let me dig that one out and see if the number is maybe just distorted by corrosion.

I was not the original owner of the car which the ABS unit came out of. Possible it was a replacement? I'm pretty good with my Gen 3 SHO's and I am sure this came out of a 1996.

All that said, I am of the belief that the ABS is exclusive to the V8 SHO, but at the same time, all ABS units will work on any year V8 SHO. Look for the Yellow sticker.
