    Hey everyone,

Popping in with another quick question. I'm stopping on my lunch break to pick up a new mirror as mine recently broke. I noticed the SHO that I'm getting the mirror from, has the entire NAV system with climtate controls for only $55. Before I buy it, does anyone know how much of a hassle it is to swap from non NAV to with NAV? From what it seems, I'd just have to swap out the entire head unit, with the new one with NAV.

My only fear is the center console if I would have to get the center console from the SHO as well, in order to have Navigation working. If I didn't get a new center console, would the swap still work?

Any insight that can be given will be greatly appreciated. I feel like $55 for the enitre unit is a really good deal, so I', considering buying it either way. If this is a huge headache that I should avoid, hopefully someone can shed some light on me before my lunch break lol. Thanks for the read and help!

For 2013+ models with the 8" screen I would say no major issues other than probably needing to purchase the dedicated GPS antenna and re-flash the APIM. For 2010-12 I would probably say the APIM, center instrument panel bezel, antenna and possibly having to re flash the APIM. Look around on the forums I believe that the 2010-12 was the last year that you could swap the OEM stereo out for a aftermarket stereo head unit. There is a bezel replacement obvious but can be done. That should give you the option of putting a possibly better double din head unit. Most of them nowadays have the NAV built in and you can get all modern day features, USB, AUX, Bluetooth, SAT radio, even back up cameras. Some of the newer models have DUAL camera inputs so you can install a front and rear camera.

Personally for $55 try it, if you can't install it on your vehicle then try to sell again.

AFAIK The center consoles are the same for all 2010-2012 models.

Don't confuse Center Console with Center Instrument panel.

Center Console is the cup holder, storage compartment, shifter.

Center Instrument Panel is the audio, climate, phone and for 2010-12 models the trip computer selection. 2013+ models moved the Driver Information center controls to the left LCD screen of the main vehicle instrument cluster. The right side contained duplicate display/controls for the "4 Corners" Phone/NAV/Audio/Climate. Some early build 2014 models kept all four but most 2014+ models removed the climate function of the duplicate display and also removed the Fuel used section of the Drivers Information Center.

This is why I love this forum, thank you so much for all of the information you provided me!

The reason I mentioned center console, is I used to work at a Ford dealership and my mom had a 2013 SHO. The NAV card was always in the center console inside the storage compartment where the USB is. Am I reading this correctly that the NAV card location is in a different spot on 10-12 SHO's?

I believe the 2010-12 are DVD based maps. SYNC2 2013-2015 are SD card. SYNC3 2016+ is internal memory in APIM.

I am not familiar with 2010-12 but would guess upgrading to nav wouldn't be too big of a deal. If there are hard buttons on the control panel obviously that would need to change as well. On the 2013+ swapping APIMs is plug and play but it may need to be reprogrammed if the options on the car it came from is not the same as your car. Also hardware is the same for SYNC2 APIMs is the same, navigation is enabled through programming and the maps on the SD card(this was at one time possible to enable but I have heard Ford closed this with a software update). SYNC version one may or may not be the same, the SYNC2 and 3 APIMs are def not plug and play in 2010-12 cars.

There is a dash kit at least for some 2010-12s but it is expensive. For$55 and possibly a control panel I would pull the trigger and see if it works.

The 2010 is a hard drive based nav. Do the non nav 2010s have dual zone climate controls? I know on the 2010-2014 Mustang, you have to swap the AC box to the one that has dual zone controls. You need several harnesses, all the amps, etc too. I don’t know of anybody who has done it in a Taurus, so you’ll probably be paving the way. I’m sure you can get it done, though. For 55 bucks, you don’t have much to lose. Keep in mind, the Sync 1 hard drive nav does not support Apple car play or android auto, and the app link never really worked. I know. I have one in my 2012 Mustang. I really wish I hadn’t bought a nav car when it was new so I could upgrade to a modern aftermarket unit now. I just put a Kenwood DNX994s in my F250, and it’s awesome. It blows away the Sync 3 in my 16 SHO.

For 2010-12 I believe SEL and Above which is the majority of models except for econobox company fleets, had dual zone automatic control. Different option packages determined leather and heated but definitely SEL and above was dual zone Climate Control. I believe Moonroof, NAV and Leather were stand alone options.
