I believe the thin, fine-holed stock Gen 1 leather seat insert has been unobtanium for many years. When I went to have my '89 seats redone in '96, even the cloth inserts were unobtanium.

BUT the side leather was available, at something like $17/ sq ft back then!

try this place, they have sent me samples of the exact fabrics for my Shelby dodge's, haven't seen if they have the stuff for the sho though.

I would imagine you could probably get generic leather, and perforated leather aftermarket, and have it be pretty damn close. That's what I did for the seats in the supercoupe.

The other route would be to have a shop repair the one spot in the rear cloth, change the side panels in the front seats back to Ford leather. And leave it as a clother/leather interior. Although yes, the interior was originally the full leather.

    Try getting ahold of jelloslug.

I don't think Katzkin ever made covers for the Gen 1.

I have some cloth, not really for sale, but you never know. Was back in '03-'05, Upholstery shop I went to here in MN didn't have any trouble finding it then and can't remember price w/o digging out receipt, but it didn't seem to bad at the time as i got enough to redo all seats if needed. Don't know about the perf leather, but the side leather was available and price didn't seem too bad, but only got enough to fix one bolster and seat bottom sides.

Katskin only makes kits for the Gen2 interior. The only shot at Gen1 interior is finding a good interior shop and finding material that is close to the factory. Some European models offer similar perforated leather, but they are very expensive. The other choice is some of the newer (to use the VW/BMW term) leatherette. You can find a wider range of styles, at a lower cost, that might give a closer match to the factory look. The 1st step is finding a quality interior shop. :salute:

Fibrenew. They can repair/restore just about any leather damage and it's pretty well priced. Much cheaper if you pull the seats first. There is one in Raleigh.

I have some samples coming from an NOS upholstery dealer. I'll see how they match up and if it looks close will probably do the interior in Titanium vinyl with Titanium perforated vinyl inserts.

Just getting seats redone in leather is not that tough, any shop that deals with upholstering can handle it, just bring piles of cash.

I'll speak for Bill here, but what I believe he wants is the original, or as close as possible to the original, Gen 1 perforated leather, as he wants the car to be as close to stock as possible.

IMO, the Gen 1 leather really was good looking stuff, but being thin, it just didn't hold up, and the the ability to find replacement perforated leather like that had disappeared years ago. I like hsi plan to possibly use vinyl. I woulld rather have vinyl that looks exactly like the original, rather than leather that doesn't.

I was told that the leather seats from the corresponding years of the Thunderbird were an exact match to the 1st gen sho. Not sure about the 2nd.

Browsing online, they look very close, but I haven't verified it in person.

The T-Bird SuperCoupe seats were actually closer to the Mustang GT seats. The bolsters and thigh supports are a little different. I've heard of using T-bird/Mustang GT kits and having an upholsterer reconfigure them, but you still end up spending close to cost of a custom upholstery. :salute:

Nope, the Supercoupe seats are identical to the SHO seats with exception of the stitching on the center panels and the lever to let the seat back fold forward.

Try 2003 (and up?) Suzuki XL-7 seating material. The perforated "leather" looks the same as the 89 material. Someone should be able to source it.

My 2000 C230 Kompressor also had perforated leather seats (black), so you could also might try asking leather for that car to patch-up yours.
