Before I get flamed I did try the search feature but most of what appeared to be good threads denied me from reading them. It said something about not having permission to access them... anyway.

What is the ideal set up for a 3.2 mtx swap... 3.0 heads & cams OR 3.2 heads with 3.0 cams? I know we want to use the 3.0 cams but Im just not sure which heads have the advantage as far as power goes. To me it sounds easier to just swap over my 3.0 heads onto the 3.2 block.

Please guide me in the right direction, thanks!:)

**EDIT** I already have a complete junkyard 3.2 in my garage and I'll be using the cams that are currently in my 89 **EDIT**

Alot of info was lost in what i think was a crash? Not sure.

Anyways The only thing you use is the 3.2 block and rolling assembly. 3.0 heads, 3.0 oil pan, 3.0 accessories etc. etc. It should be done this way for a couple different reasons, mount locations etc. clearences, ATX= sperentine MTX isn't.

EDIT: Couple people have used the 3.2 heads and serpentine set up but its generally accepted that dressing the 3.2 in everything from the 3.0 is the easiest route.

Good luck.

What he said.

3.0 heads will save you some PITA , and both heads , perfomance-wise are the same.

Basically the only 3.2 thing, is the block. Everything else is 3.0. except for the water pump IIRC. having the 2 engines out is the easiest way to do it. just swap parts over from the 3.0 to the 3.2 block.

I think its easier to leave the 3.2 heads on, then modify the front head according to the article on SHOTimes. Swapping the rear heads is redundant anyway since they are the exact same.

When my swap was done, we just left the 3.2 heads on and modified them as was neccessary....IIRC, there's only one lil thing that's gotta be lopped off.

same thing im doing, im actually leavin to buy a sawzall blade now. if you keep the 3.2 heads on you wont need to buy a new head gasket. also the 3.0 and 3.2 heads have different locations for the coil pack which isnt a big deal but if you use the 3.2 you have to get the 3.2 plug wires.

The intake cam in the 3.0 head is desirable since it has a little more lift than the cam in the 3.2. Keeping the 3.2 heads on makes sense in a lot of ways, but you may want to do an intake cam swap in the process.

I still have the 3.2 with the 3.2 cams, because I sort of have to (it costs me classing points to swap cams). The performance difference isn't huge, but it is a difference.

Well they ARE factory cams. Would they even know if you did?

I have done the 3.2 swap both ways. Modifying the front 3.2 head is pretty easy. Swapping the 3.0 intake cams is a free upgrade. In the end it really depends if you are pulling the rotating assembly apart in the 3.2.

Well I think I'll end up using the dual belt system & keep the MTX motor mounts. I dont want to get into custom motormount fabrication, I like the idea of parts simply bolting into place. So really it comes down to either modding the 3.2 head for the 3.0 accesory belts and swapping over the intake cams. Or swapping over both of my 3.0 heads and bolting everything else up. I think I'll use 3.0 heads & replace the head gasket in the process... they're $80 bucks at Napa.

Thank you everyone for the input.
