If you're looking for parts for a 96 brake upgrade look in the continentals and you can use the calipers and brackets but not the spindle.
If you have a 93 or older you need the knuckles out of a 94 or 95 taurus.

any 2001+ taurus has them

as well as the v8 continentals

or the gen 3 SHO's.........

you need 94-95 style Taurus Knuckles

then you need 94+ Taurus Calipers
99 SHO Caliper bracket
99SHO Pad
99 SHO Rotor

and you also need all the hardware off of a 99 SHO, specially the caliper to knuckle mounting bolts.... and caliper to bracket

Wow !

Look what I just happened to stumble across . . . .

. . . . stickied at the top of this very forum ! ! ! !

Granted, the title should probably read "96 Brake upgrade - parts required and vehicle source list", . . . but you left yourself wide-open on that one . . . .

Has what - just the FN74s, or do the calipers/ rotors/ spindles also work ? (since sho chick asked this as well)

as well as the v8 continentals

As well what -every Continental with a V8 engine that was ever produced ?

NOT !

or the gen 3 SHO's.........

The calipers/ rotors/ spindles will work ?

you need 94-95 style Taurus Knuckles

From *ALL* 94-95 Taurus ?

Again . . . .

NOT !

then you need 94+ Taurus Calipers
99 SHO Caliper bracket
99SHO Pad
99 SHO Rotor

Only from a 99 SHO ?

and you also need all the hardware off of a 99 SHO, specially the caliper to knuckle mounting bolts.... and caliper to bracket

This IS incorrect - that's strike two - next time we shoot you . . . .

The caliper bracket bolts need to come from a 94-95 Taurus or Sable. There are other F*** vehicles that use the same front caliper bracket bolt, but I've not taken time to compile them all. Caliper bracket bolts from *ANY* Gen III Taurus will not work - unless you hand-cut them to match the shorter length. So if you're already pulling 94-95 spindles, you're already pulling the 94-95 caliper bracket bolts to remove the spindles . . . .

Sorry to bust your balls "dude", but if you're going to post such information, take the time to help others out, not confuse them.

I have a 94, so All I needed was the FN74 brackets, bigger rotors and the 598 pads. Everything else, I reused.

2001+ sables have FN74 brackets as well, IIRC.

If you're going to upgrade the rotors, you should upgrade the brake lines as well. It's only $100, and the pedal feel is soooo much better...

The Lincoln Town Car and Continental are not the same. As an general rule-of-thumb: the Continental was based on the same line as the Taurus/Sable; the Lincoln Town Car on the same line as the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis. I have not seen FN74s on a Town Car.

damn dude u got a hardon for hating me

sorry I said 99 and not 96-99, but I do like to request 99 when I say a year for ordering brake parts for these cars, long ago they used to have two seperate sized pads from some companies... I think they have just merged into using all the bigger style now

sorry I didn't think someone looking for taurus upgrade brake parts would scavenge junkyards for old 60's continentals........ if u can't figure out what type of v8 continental shares brakes with a Taurus...... u shouldn't be touching your brakes, I only say v8 because the prior 3.8 taurus based versions do not use the 11.6" setup

only 94-95 taurus spindles will work, any will technically work, but if u want abs u need ones from an abs car... this is not an issue with some people....... also 2001 and up Taurus, have the caliper, pad, caliper bracket, and rotor needed for the swap, as well as the Continental 4.6 DOHC v8 FWD based off the Taurus platform.....

also tell me again you can't use the 11.6" caliper bracket bolts........ cause luckily for me, Dan barbush(awesome guy) sent the hardware along with those caliper brackets he sold me....... because I reused my stock 94 shit... and low and behold the bolt end touches the rotor and puts a nice groove in it..... but what the **** do I know........ it only happened to me, put on the FN74 bolts and what do u know... it didn't cut into the rotor

I did not tell this guy one bit of wrong information, in fact if he follows you, he'll have the wrong parts

please don't start this bashing, it is highly uncalled for, and don't drag the forum down like this, I only replied to clear up information for other people who read it...
