Okay, so I'm trying to figure out if previous owner modified my exhaust. I have a 2016 Taurus SHO. When I look under car, there is a y pipe coming off my downpipes that go to a single 2.5" resonator, then exit with 2.5" pipe that y's out again at axle to dual mufflers. I guess my question is this.....doesn't the stock system run dual 2.25" pipes from cats back?

Ok so that sounds like a partial F150 exhaust - from downpipes to rear axel at least.

I have never heard of that configuration, should be 2 downpipes with cats run through a dual pipe 3rd cat to a dual pipe resonator out dual 2.5 over axel to to mufflers.

Thanks thats what I thought. I have two catted downpipes that go into a 2.5” y pipe, followed by 2.5” pipe and a single resonator which exits into single 2.5” pipe then a y at axle. I want to upgrade exhaust and was underneath the car just scratching my head like wtf lol! Seems like a major bottleneck and not sure why previous owner did it. I have stock mufflers and tips on back

Turbos need to breath, you will get better response. Ha your down here in FL... read my signature. Once the third cat and resonator are removed, you get drone.

I have zero drone and car is very very quiet. I‘ve listened to sound clips of stock SHO’S and mine does not sound the same. I also get less than reported MPG on highway. Best I’ve got was 21mpg on a drive to key west.

Fix the exhaust and you will get better mpg. I would remove those DPs for PPE catless use a magnaflow xpipe to stock mufflers, or grab my magnaflow straight-through mufflers.

Swapping DP throws a CEL correct? i actually just bought a tune from GearHead but haven’t installed yet. I need to swap plugs map and thermostat first. I’ve only had car a couple months now, but definitely trying to wake it up. I installed catch can and AFE intake first week owning it lol.

If you need parts let me know, also UPR might be interested in shooting a how to video for your year model, PM me if interested in more info. I don't work for them, my neighbor does.

Swapping to catless DP will throw a code. I have PPE catted downpipes with no problem.
