6FBAB36C 6995 4C27 8577 FBE57F9591F7 With the high heat these PTU units see under the car and wedges between the cats ,I’m going to shield mine from the excess heat with this material I have ,I’ve used it around Subaru turbos. Ive also used this same material with hot RV generators around the carb and intake and in between the pan and exhaust pipe,The heat soaks the intake and the fuel literally boils in the carbs when running them in the hot summer months causing them to get vapor locked and stop running ,since I added the bet shield mine works like a charm and I can see how this would defiantly keep the PTU cooler by also shielding it from this high heat .Ill report back after I wrap and shield the PTU.

I kind of thought it would be easier to just wrap the downpipe and cats rather than the ptu. And they make wrap just for that too!

And I wonder if wrapping the PTU will also hold the heat that the PTU generates in

And yes, I'm here from the facebook group - the radiant heat from the PTU will be held in by the wrap. Whether or not that's a concern I have no clue ;)

The heat outside the PTU is greater than what the gears are producing by a long shot ,heat doesn’t have anywhere to go anyway but in the direction of more heat from the exhaust .

I’m
Shooting for a barrier “in between” the exhaust and the PTU like a heat shield of sorts not a direct contact blanket like some turbo blankets

May be a good time to add in a temp sensor. Probably have to be hardwired tho, dunno if a wireless one would survive for long.

A few years ago, I Drilled and tapped my RDU and PTU with a 1/8-27 NPT tap and used the same drain plug found on the transmission. This also facilitates flushing the ptu with a solvent, trans fluid or gear oil before filling.
