I have owned my 2010 SHO for two years. Never any problems. Completely stock. Today after an 80 mile run on the interstate and stopping for about 10 minutes it took 10 seconds or so to start (usually starts right up). Ran rough, smoked some and then smoothed out. No codes whatsoever. Drove it home stopping a few times. Seemed to smoke som when I would first start off and then it was fine. Still no codes. Each time after the hard start it started right up. What should I be looking at?

Could be a stuck injector? Any codes? Doesn't smell like coolant or fuel or ?

Have you checked to see if there is coolant in the oil or vice versa? Smoke from the exhaust typically shows at startup, idle, or WOT/ hard acceleration.

And being winter, if you have ethanol fuel in your area, could be a bad tank of gas, needing HEET to dry it out.

Well, Dropped it at the local Ford dealer yesterday and they called me today with their diagnosis. Engine toast. More blow by than they had ever seen. Metal shavings in the oil. Only $8,500 for a new engine for a car with a book value of $4,000 that I owe more than that on. What really makes me sick is I bought a Fors extended warranty. Went over the mileage sometime last year.

I would get a second opinion. And see what a local shop can do replacing the engine with a junkyard motor.

? Blow by to me means that cyclider leak down is greater than 20%. The a/f charge is making it's way past the rings into the crankcase.

Side note: The dealer may be reluctant, but they too an install an aftermarket part or used part.

Sounds like it had a hard life. Probability didn't get the oil changes done soon enough which resulted in accelerated engine wear. At least I hope that is the case.

well, regardless of what is wrong, it is not my problem anymore. Couldn’t see pouring money into a car with a trade in value of $4,000. Local Ford dealer took it in trade, yea I took a beating. But I am now the proud owner of a Jeep Wrangler.

No it was babies with synthetic oil changes. I rarely got into the throttle. Something obviously broke internally. Will never know, the dealer that took it in trade is having an auction company pick it up today.

I meant before you bought it. The previous owner was maybe was not as nice to it. Enjoy the Wrangler!
