Hi all, I just bought a 2012 with pp and am quite shocked at how jarring the ride with the 20" wheels is. Tire rack has rims as small as 17" available for the 12 SHO. has anyone tried smaller rims? If so was the ride better? How much acceleration increase was noticed? Any info on this would be great.
Thanks.

Factory 18 inch steel interceptor wheels fit. The ride is smother, but you can tell the sidewalls flex in a corner

Acceleration will not change.
Thanks for the info. Being in Colorado the paved and gravel/dirt roads can get rough. 20" rims don't make sense here. Do you have a good source for the interceptor steel wheel?

I installed 255/45/20's and the ride improved dramatically on my MKS. How many miles do you have? It's possible your shocks could need replacing.

Good question. I have the 20's and I live in the midwest with plenty of *** holes, bumps, dips, horrible roads, etc and I think my car rides excellent. I would address other issues like limited02 suggest.+

Just as a reminder. The shocks on a performance pack and a non performance pack are differnt. I would say my 16 rides rough, but it's a P.P. I know it will.

Comparing an MKS is is not conceivable for the fact that it may have continuous dampening suspension. If it doesn't it likly has differnt shocks.

Inspecting/Repairing worn suspension will not hurt anything.

Only the '13+ have CCD shocks, so my MKS does not and would be comparable to the OP's SHO. The MKS may have differently valved shocks, but it by no means is a smooth ride. Going up a touch in tire size made a world of a difference for me. I'll be going with coil-overs soon in hopes of an improved ride.

I got my interceptor wheels from a wrecked PI sedan in a local salvage yard. They had 3 complete sets at the time. Car-part.Com can find local yards with that specific wheel...it's what I used.

I believe Flex/SHO/MKS are the same, but Explorer is different. Best to ask the vendor.

I know it’s been a while, but the car had about 52,000 on it when I posted. It now rides on 17” mustang rims and the ride is improved. The suspension is definitely the biggest problem with the ride quality. I will be goint to coil overs at some point this year. The tires are 225 series and much easier to spin on dry with tc on. At 6500 ft elevation plus it wasn’t a problem on the stock size. Plus I reduced my top speed to 118 per the much lower tire speed rating of the larger sidewall.

Will 255/55r18 fit on the PI wheels? I found a deal on brand new Michelin Alpin's for $29 a tire!
