Cliffnotes: I was having issues with older Continental DWSo6's on my 13 SHO. I had two with compromised sidewalls. Both bubbled but did not fail. They were manufactured 0711. Check your tires, the older tires are know to have sidewall issues. However, I am told the Continental has fixed the situation.

When I bought my SHO, it had the Continental DSW06 in 245/45/20 on it. I have a PP so clearly the stock tires were replaced. I don't know when. One tire had been replaced by the dealer Dec 2017.

About a month ago, I got a wicked vibration and pulled over. Low and behold one of the "older" tires had a huge sidewall bubble on the inside. I suspect the one that was replaced had the same issue. Both were on the front. I went to Discount Tire and had it I replaced it. So running tally, two new tires on the front and two old out back.

Last week I had another sidewall bubble in one of the older tires....grrr... Replaced it, so now I have three new and one old. I am leaving work today, to replace my last old one just for piece of mind. So now I will have four new tires, on rims I don't want. First world problems.

I talked to Discount Tire and they said the older model Continental DSW06 had sidewall issues on heavy cars with bigger torque numbers. Esp the Chrysler 300C with AWD. He said Continental did address the situation and the newer generation (the ones on my car right now) and they haven't had any issues in his particular store. The Discount I go to is in North Scottsdale, AZ and is literally right next to their Corporate Head Quarters. They are alway busy, and he see alot of the 300C.

So now to the tech part of my post. My new tires have a build date of 2817. My older tire still on my car right now has a build date of 0711. Build date on tires is easy to figure out if you don't know. Look for a four digit number. First two numbers are the week they were manufactured, and last two are year. So my new tires were manufactured the 28th week of 2017. My old ones were the 0711, so 7th week of 2011.

I really want to know when the older Conti's were put on my car, because I would assume it was in 2015. That is pure speculation. I bought my car with 51k on it. All the old tires still have 80% thread on them. The previous owner drove 10k miles a year. It adds up in my head. If that is the case, why did a tire shop put four year old (brand new) tires on a car? Like I said I am speculating.

All in all, I love my Conti's and if these tires are fixed my SHO will probably live on them for the rest of the time I own the car.

I like mine. I just wish they hadn't failed and worn out properly. I wanted to buy a new rim and tire combo, and literally just dropped $900 just to keep my car on the road. If the new Conti's are fixed, I will buy new ones for the new rims further down the road.

So....... I have to say the DWS06 tires suck! I also own a 2010 Audi S4 and I've heard multiple stories from that community also!

I bought a set for my 2014 SHO with PP about a year ago. After about 8,000 miles on these tires I was at my Ford dealer for free oil change and they come out and gave me the "run down," on my car and say my tires are getting real close to needing replacement. I actually laugh at the service manager and said no you have the wrong car, I just replaced the tires about a year ago....

He takes me to my car and shows me the tires - NO TREAD!! *Note: I did not track the car, race the car, or do anything aggressive at all. I could not believe it! I went straight to Discount Tire and thank goodness Continental provided me about $700 in warranty money towards a new set. The manager at Discount Tire said he does not recommend the DWS06 for sport sedans! He said the best tire is the Continental Sport Contact. So I put these on and not one issue.

Very interesting. Looks like the Bimmer guys are/were having issues too.

I have a set with a build date of 02/17 and they've treated my boat well. I corner hard, accelerate hard and see triple digits from time to time. My personal experience has been great and if that continues until I need to replace them, I'll certainly buy them again.

I feel the same way even with my old ones. I have a newer set 2817 so they should be fixed. If they kick ass I will buy them again as well.

I’ve had two sets of them and loved them. First one on our 13 Ecoboost 2.0 Fusion. It was a front driver, and we could actually get out of the driveway on snow days. The stock Goodyears just spun. Recently got a set on our 17 Ecoboost Flex, and they transformed the dry handling over the stock Hankooks—no more squeeling around corners. They’re awesome in the rain too—no hydroplaning at all unlike the Hankooks. My mother in law has a set on her 15 Explorer Sport with 36k on them, and they still have tons of tread left. Hankooks were 3/32 at 34k on the Flex. If a set of dws06 wore out in 8k, they must have had a bad batch of rubber or something. It’s not a problem endemic to the tire.

Yes, that's the whole point of my post - there's a huge batch of bad DWS06 out there! As I said I've heard this complaint many multiple times from not only SHO owners, but my Audi friends, BMW, Chrysler, Mercedes, and other large sport sedan owners. Never in my life have I heard of so many complaints about one exact model of tire.

Sounds like you enjoy playing russian roulette!

Just walked outside and took this picture and they have around 9,500 miles on them. I'll be mounting them on a new set of wheels in the next week or two and we'll see if there is anything wrong that I didn't see.

I agree with this. There is a bad batch out there. If they remedied the issue, I will have no issues buying another set of DWS06's again.

The ones that are out there now are pretty new production. They were backordered in several 20” sizes for months. I had a **** of a time getting a set for the wife’s car. By the time anybody had them back in stock her old tires were as bald as the back of my head.

Good thing you posted this. Was going to get these exact tires pretty soon due to the poor performance of the stock primacy mxm4s. Now I'll make sure to check the manufacture date before purchasing....

On a similar topic though I was debating going 255/45/20 for the new tires wondering if anyone has done the same, and if there's any cons because they seem like they'll fit just fine and are a good bit cheaper than the 245s.

No worries, I was just trying to help people out.

I would run the 255/45/20 on my SHO if I didnt have to purchase the smaller ones. They are a good tire.

Thanks for the posting. I put 255's on mine about 18 months ago with no issues or complaints so far, I'll have to check the date code (thanks again for posting). I rotate every oil change myself and keep my pressures at 30psi cold, I also gauge across the tire at every rotation and record.

Rotation rear to front and cross rotate front to rear

I run the exact tire and size you are looking at. Fits perfectly and like you said, a good bit cheaper!

You should not be running tires manufactured in 2011. I have heard they had issues some years back but it was supposedly fixed. I have about 15k miles on my DWS06s purchased last year with no issues.

I purchased the car (2013 PP) with the tires (2011). One of two things happened in my mind. The tire company put old tires on it (knowing or not knowing) or the previous owner got taken by someone.

Regardless, I have brand new DWS06's on the car right now. I like the tires, they do everything that I ask of them. With the research that I have done it seems Continental did fix the issue. With that I am happy about.
