So I have been reading up lots on these Ecoboost engines and am starting to get a little concerned on my new purchase. Granted its a 2016 with 27k miles with a bumper 2 bumper 7 year warranty but still. I have been reading about all these little things we should do or need to do for these engines and its a little concerning. People talking about cleaning the induction system every 10k miles and such. At the recommendation of a SHO owner catch can is a must so I will get this done but at 27k miles on a used SHO is there something I should look at doing now? With a full bumper 2 bumper warranty is there something or anything the dealer screw me on if it goes bad on my SHO?

Personally I don't run a catch can. I believe the carbon build up has to do with the direct injection not the PVC system.

Maintainence is key. Take care of the car and it will take care of you.

the carbon build up occurs because there is small traces of oil being blown through the pcv system because of the boost pressure coating the valves slightly because of the direct injection the valves can no longer be constantly sprayed clean like on non direct injection cars. i want to run a catch can system just for piece of mind they are not that expensive (http://www.jlttruecoldair.com/ZenCart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=378&products_id=1122) here is a link to the one im going to purchase very easy install. i dont expect anything to go wrong with your SHO or any of ours the F-150 are already reaching 200,*** plus miles and nobody is having any issues carbon build up is going to occur no matter what. GDI and GTDI have been around in other countries way longer than america and with ford owning companies like Jaguar and Land Rover im not worried about anything

One important thing to do is to drive these cars hard from time to time ... the ole Italian tuneup. Methanol injection remains the #1 way to combat as it essentially adds port fuel injection, washing over the backs of the intake valves.

I think the catch can is more of a gimmick than a necessity. Typically, unless you have a lot of oil blowing by your rings, there should not be an issue with carbon build up. Just give it a Ferrari tune-up once a week and use gas with detergent plus synthetic oil and you will most likely be fine.

I am not sold on them for this car as catch cans work for the PVC system, the bigger issue is inherent in direct injection cars. A catch can will not help with stopping carbon build up due to direct injection. Other makes, like VW have the same issues.

Get regular oil changes and you shouldn't have much to worry about. I'm at 152K plus miles so far, one blend door actuator at 20 bucks is my total repair costs. Original turbos and PTU, still runs strong and I wouldn't worry one bit about driving it on a 1000 mile road trip. I see tons of 10's and 11's for sale with over 150K miles on them. If you bang on it like it's a $2K car, you will probably have issues.
