Hello All,

Has anyone ever had a Direct Clutch Failure in their Taurus SHO before?

I was driving down the road and the wrench light came on and there was no power when I hit the gas, almost like Limp Mode. I pulled into a parking lot and was going to back into a parking space and it would not electronically shift into reverse. The rear shade made it's noise as usual and the rear video came on and only revving. Started to drive home and it was already worse, it would automatically come out of first gear and it wouldn't manually (paddle shift) come out of first either. A mile down the road I had to pull into another parking lot because it would not move forward over 3-5 mph. Got a ride home and hooked up my 14' trailer to the EB F150 to pick up the SHO. Since it was cooled down, it still wouldn't go into reverse, I was able to drive it onto the trailer, WHEW. Towed to dealership and they finally looked at it today and found that the direct clutch failed. They said it was two pieces that need to be replaced. Then they had to get the parts from somewhere, which will be about two weeks away. They haven't opened the tranny up yet so no telling what else they will find in two or more weeks. They did however say that there is a TSB on this issue or recall. I don't remember which. It is covered by Warranty!!

Will try to update the post every time I hear something new from dealership. Going to try to get pictures of the tranny out and apart with failed components.

Until I get the SHO back I am starting the mods on the '15 EB F150 FX4. (AFE complete intercooler/hot and cold pipes, Throttle body, Full Race downpipes, Full Race Catch can and Resonator delete.)

Yes, I had the Airaid CAI, 3 Bar MAP Sensor, Step colder plugs and 93 Tune.

Removed all prior to taking to dealership.

But with SYNC, it sends a message to Ford that a system change has been made so they now that the computer has been breached.

There have been reports of various clutch failures on the SHO, tho still fairly rare, esp when compared to PTU incidents.

Nope. I am not sure what advantage that would be over the traction control systems available today. But as it is so few custom performance parts are available for the Gen 4 SHO :(

WHAT? So if it send a message, why even restore back to Stock? My car goes in for service and to look at an issue this Friday so I put Stock tune and 2-Bar back in but I am not messing with the plugs & stat!

Is this a new feature? Ford informed me that they can tell how many times the ecu has been flashed when they hook it up via IDS...but not what WAS flashed... You also get a P1000 code until readiness is established...

Nothing about sync reporting flashes to the dealer. Also, when you update sync, you have to take the USB stick back to the computer to verify the update via the website. If they could send that data without the added steps I'm sure they would...

Ford gets SYNC data that the computer has been unlocked and locked and that is it. Like you stated above they don't get actual changes. The only way around SYNC automatically sending out a signal via satellite is fully disconnecting the stock radio. Yes, the full programming is accessible through SYNC, but it must be downloaded manually.

It does not show the change of what your flash was. It is just saying the computer has been unlocked then relocked.

Do you know where that information is documented? How does the info get sent? If I flash my ecu does that lock/unlock information get queued somewhere to be sent to Ford next time it connects to my phone? Curious...

When I load my tune:
A time/date stamp "only" when the computer is unlocked then locked goes through SYNC and shows the breach.
The dealership when using their Star Scan Device Software, has a precursor to denote which dealer accessed. With our tuners it has a different access precursor. Dealers usually only use their device when they are resetting peripherals or warranty work.
There really is nothing to worry about. Unless Ford is protecting themselves against being sued for liabilty, they will never question the unlock/lock commands.

Now you do have the occasional dealership that is sticklers for modifications. I have a pretty good dealership, I would think.
