first off... hello. just picked up a 11' SHO. First SHO and LOVE it. Im sure this has been covered but not able to get a real answer. I'm looking on adding a remote start. I do not watn to add another FOB. i want to intergrate the existing FOB or a standalone system (while keeping the keyless start intergration) What are you all using? I have no problem installing myself (ex mechanic). Any help would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure your stuck for pre 2013 models but there might be some other input. The 2010-12 remote start may be a good reason why it was changed in 2013. 2010-12 Ford OEM start I believe shut the engine down after opening the door. Pretty much defeating the purpose of the start in the first place. 2013 models made two improvements. 1. Uninterrupted transfer of starting after inserting key (SEL/Limited base models) or pushing key fob (SHO) 2. Moving the remote start transmitter to Key Fob (All models with remote start.)

Upload 2016 2 2 21 33 24 Geoff, Personally I do not think the remote start is that big a deal.
Kinda like the telescopic steering wheel adjust. It is COOL! the first time, but what use is it unless you are using multiple drivers.
The remote start will not start the seat warmers or the heated steering wheel.
At least I have not found a way to do it...

:poke: 2013 & up will heat/cool the seats & heat the steering wheel......!

I guess I'm opposite - I love the remote start & use it almost every day! (I also like the telescoping wheel...) A quick google search pulled up lots of aftermarket starters in the $200 range, or the system from Ford for $400. It seems like there were some bugs in the Ford system that were resolved in the 13 & up models, but personally I would still go for it. Maybe a search of this forum will turn up some other opinions & advice on factory v/s aftermarket remote start systems for your car; here's a couple to red through:

That was another improvement of the 2013 models, you can program the remote to set heat, A/C, heaters etc... yes VIPER models do seem to ring a bell for good functional aftermarket remote starters, and I believe can be programmed for alarm with text message alerts for motion sensor activation/breakage.

Pintony: You might change your tune on remote start next winter when its 20 below for a few days straight.

I would be interested to know how to get the seats and wheel heater to come on with the remote start????

You have a 2014, right? All of the remote start & climate settings are accessed from the left panel of your instrument cluster. Heat, cool, defrost, run time, etc... can all be programmed.

Hello 2011TAURUSSEL,
I would change my tune NOW if you could tell me how to turn on the heat with the remote start.

No problem, follow the set up menu. pretty much every vehicle setting is the left side cluster......Entertainment, Climate, Nav and Phone are right side.

NOTE: 2014 models at least my recollection had two cycles early build and late build. My 2014 with Jan 2014 build DOES NOT have the Climate function on the RH cluster and the gallons used was removed from the trip computer function of the LH Cluster. Yours May or may not have the Climate function on the right hand instrument cluster.

NOTE 2: The RH cluster are for the most part duplicate functions ad displays of the Main MFT screen. Although smaller display most selections are mostly identical. Example a couple of years ago SYNC decided to perform system update while driving. Took about 15 minutes to complete but I had the Navigation function displayed on the main MFT screen with Satellite Radio on the secondary display. The update started, the NAV function moved to the RH instrument panel screen and since no entertainment function due to update the NAV stayed in the RH instrument panel display. When update was done, NAV went back to center display and USB went back to RH I.P. display.....Automatic.

2014 Ford Taurus Owners Manual 3rd Printing Pg118........... Remote Start........... Climate. Shame on your sales person for not going over those features with you at delivery.

Also look at Compustar.
I have a Compustar pro P2W900FMR (2 way 900 Mhz remote) on a manual transmission SHO and it works flawlessly. It has a turbo mode which allows your turbos to cool off after you set the e-brake and remove the key.
It has so many features it is rediculous, Cold / Hot Start starts the car when a preset temp is reached.
It does have a seperate key fob, as it has a small screen that displays what is going on, but my system is ancient and that may be different now.

geoff:
i have a viper remote start on my '10 sho. works great, no shut off when open door. but 2 fobs. i thought that remote start was vastly more important than carrying another fob. if my '13 escape is any indicator of remote start differences, it's mainly in distance. viper can work much, much further away. my escape is probably max 100' & i'm not sure that as is inconsistent.
