Well, the SHO has let me down. I'm stuck on the side of the road waiting on a tow.

I drove the car pretty hard for the last 20 miles with no issues. Slight hesitation in the lower rpms. Started cruising and it started to loose all power and died. Pulled the cam sensor, no oil.

I figure It's got to be the coil pack. I let it cool for 10min and she goes about an eighth mile and ***** the bed.

Am I on the right track with the coil pack idea?

Maybe, could be a CPS too. Do you have spark and fuel? How is the fuel pump, can u hear it prime? I would say pull codes and go from there.

The other thing is that after I put some ice water on a shirt and let it sit on the pack, she ran again. Not well, but it got me to my pops.

CPS is dry and the tach works. Fuel pump primes up too. And you can smell raw gas. It is definitely a spark issue.

Sounds like the coil pack. I imagine that now that these cars are hitting 20+ years old that we will be seeing more and more coil pack failures.

Looks like a new coil pack did the trick! It had a Motorcraft pack, which leads me to believe it was original or VERY old. Since I've had the car, I rarely put anything Motorcraft on it.

Anyway, lifetime warranty on the new one and that pesky 2K-4K rpm slight hesitation is GONE!

Probably original. They aren't a common failure item. I knew a guy with a Ranger that ran terrible, he said he changed the plugs, and told me which ones were fouled. Pulled the wire off and that terminal on the coil had no spark, and another was weak.

I'm kinda of surprised that yours failed entirely though. Glad to hear you have it fixed.

DIS ? I just had almost the same issue. Took the dis off and it had a light build up of water and crap behind it. Cleaned it up and added new thermal compound , haven't had an issue since.

What's your fuel pressure? This could be vapor lock.

Oooo, wait a sec.

My filter for the fuel vapors is plugged up and I keep forgetting about it. When the car stalled out I popped the fuel cap and there was a TON of pressure in the tank.

I usually have it cracked to keep this from happening until I get off my ass and replace the canister.

Could this cause my issue?

I don't know if it would cause the car to die, but another related part to check is the T in the vapor line. There is a T union just under the driver side of the radiator - one leg goes to the charcoal canister, one to the intake, and one to the gas tank. One of the three (I think it's the end that runs to the tank) has a small orifice in it that could cause issues if it gets plugged up.

Ok, I have the new DIS in my truck and have been TRYING to get the car to die..

It won't.

Ever since I popped the gas cap and left it loose so the pressure wouldn't build, she's running fine.

I hate my SHO..............I can't trust her and it's driving me INSANE!!!
