I mounted up one of my new Nitto 05R 285-40-18 slicks that are mounted on TSW 18" x 9" 32 Offset Interlagos Roto Forged Wheels. These are the same style wheel that Darreli is using in the 20" x 8.5" size. This size weighs 18 lbs each.:dribble:

The weight of the Nitto & the Interlagos wheel is 48 lbs, which means thee Nitto's weigh 29 lbs+. For comparison, the Conti DW's on ASA AR2-V2's weighed 45 lbs each on the same scale today. This is 3 lbs less than when new! HAVE BURNED OFF 3LBS of RUBBER!!!!!

The stock Flex 20's weigh 63lbs each. Here is a comparison of the size difference between the stock wheel and the new Nitto. The 20" Goodyear RS-A's are 29.1" tall vs the Conti DW's at 27.0". This 7% difference effectively raises the axle ratio to 3.40! The weight is also rotating in a 7% smaller radius which helps getting more torque to the pavement.

Eliminating 60 lbs of unsprung weight allows the wheels to spool up quicker, and really helps handling and stopping.

This picture shows both 18" wheels on my Brick. Note the wheel design makes the front wheels look larger than the rears, but both are 18".

This picture shows the difference in width between the stock 255-45-20's and the 285-40-18"s, as well as how far they stick out with the 32 offset TSW's. The 18"x8" ASA's are 40 offset, and the stock 20" Ford wheels are 38 offset.

Another view. Don't really stick out too far.

What is different about this pix???

Can you Notice a Drastic Difference on the Street?? Spooling and Launching that is??

I have not tried the Nittos on the street yet. Just mounted one on the Brick to see how it looked. I was in the process of switching back to my 20" Ford rims and A/S tires for our trip back to Iowa next week for the Holidays.

As soon as we get back here, around 12-29, I'll be putting them back on with a couple DW's on the rear, and do some street testing and then head to Bradenton.

Have had the Conti's on for approximately 25K of the 30,000 mi. They definitely help the Brick get off the line when it's warm out.

One thing that I noticed when changing the wheels today, is that the front wheels are locked and cannot move when off the ground, The rears move independently even when the other side is on the ground. That is why it is impossible to get much spin out of the rear wheels, and why it is doubly important to get the fronts to hook up.

The Nitto 05s are good for traction if you aren't overpowering them with too much motor. With your power level and AWD, you should put down some nice numbers for sure. And they look superb on your "brick" too. :dribble:

When it's hot, I didn't have any serious issues with traction using my Conti DW's. When the temps got cold, the DW's wouldn't bite, in part because they got hard, but also because the EB engine makes considerably more power in the cool/cold air.

Plan is to use them on the Brick until it gets warmer, than move them over to my 08' G8 GT after it gets a cam & converter. Will then move the Conti's to the Interlagos, as I have 4. Or, perhaps, I will have to replace them if I wait until fall. Already at 30K!

About the only difference in PT betweeen SHO & Flex is the length of the drive shaft and exhaust. Some of the suspension components are slightly different, but are interchangeable, just modified for extra weight and wheelbase differences. Flex is actually shorter than SHO, but has longer wheelbase.

But mine is a SHO wagon... because it says SHO-EcoBoost on both the front and rear...LOL! If it says so... it must be so!!!!:omgsho::nut::nut:

Even the airbox is identical! NESHO's mid-pipe mod is on my Brick.. Fit perfectly!

Only other issue is getting slicks the right diameter to work with AWD system. I GOT LUCKY!

Wheels are way to small for that thing. For performance sure but it looks goofy. But if its track only who gives a flux!

However those tires I bet will grip like ****!

Darreli is running 20" x 8.5" TSW Interlagos with Conti DW's on his SHO... They are the lightest reasonably priced wheels available. the 18" I have were $256. ea with a $50. off coupon for 4. Darreli's 20" were just over $300 each. His weigh a couple lbs more than mine, but are extremely light for 20"s. I probably would have gone the way he did, if those wheels would have been available when I went with the 18" ASA's from TireRack...

Just have such a good working relationship with Mason @ TireRack... Though Wyatt at Discount Tire treated me equally well... and both are real car guys. Highly recommend them both.

that's one of those things you don't really think about it, but after weighing used vs sticker Hoosier road race tires a couple of years ago, I noticed the same thing. I have seen as much as 4 lbs from sticker to new, which is a lot, when you factor in you have 4 of them and we run pretty close to minimum weight for our class. An impound scale from a fresh set of tires to worn scrubs could be 16 lbs, which is a lot if you are cutting 5-10 lb margins on weight.
