My first oil change was 50 bucks. My second one was supposed to be 50 bucks, but this time I said make sure you put in the full synthetic oil. It was 70 dollars. Now the price isn't what bothers me, what I want to know is what they put in my car the first time that I drove 6,000 miles on. The dealer said they have no idea what kind of oil it was as they dont keep the records. So I ask, what does your oil change cost from the dealer? And is all motorcraft oil synthetic? I sure hope they didnt put conventional oil in my car.....

Edit: My receipt for the second time lists 6 quarts of 5W20 at $7.93 a quart. 2010s should be using 5w30 correct?

I take mine to a Mobil 1 shop which cost $80-$85 and that includes a Mobil 1 filter. The people that work there the best I have ever dealt with. They have given me a $10 coupon on a few occasions as well. Doesn't the car take 6 quarts to get it full?

My manual says 5W-20 for oil weight for the 2010's. Anyway, I still haven't paid for an oil change. I complained about the way they handled the TSB on my brakes and I got two free oil changes! Plus my first was free. (I've only done the first change)...and I change every 3,000 miles. So I'm still using what the dealer puts in the car..Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5w-20 and Motorcraft oil filter. But I will probably switch to Mobil One or Castrol Edge once I use up my free changes.

For 2010's it does specify 5W20 and the Motorcraft stuff if semi-synthetic. It should be fine as long as your doing your oil changes sooner than later. Personally, a Jug of 5W20 is $12 at Walmart and the motorcraft filter was $5 from dealer. I do it myself.. so under $20 as you need an additional quart to top things off. Also - I do it every 5000 kms or 3000 miles.

You might want to read up on Royal Purple. In the past, tests on BITOG showed it sheared quickly (as well as Mobil1).

WOW, you pay $80 - $85 dollars for an oil change?

same thing i was thinking .......:omgsho:

advanced auto has castrol syntec 5 qt for 28.00 + a Bosch filter add another 8.00 for the additional qt and your only 36.00 a oil change ????

for 80+ dollars you could be using amsoil still cheaper @ 9.20 a qt,plus if you know a dealer they will work with you

Yep... I went past one the other day, and I stopped in to ask them about my 93.

I ended up getting a gallon of Mobil 1 0w-30, plus another pint and 1 FL-1A, for about $35. I complained the entire time I changed my oil but I still had $40 for pizza and beer when I was done. :)

But that being said... IIRC the Mobil 1 is the only "quick" place around here anyway that has full synthetic.. everyone else has a synthetic blend I found. I can't say I checked everywhere tho.

Did you read the new data on the SL grade of oil.. I think it is now... whatever the newest one is.... they almost cut those #'s in half again... this oil these days is getting pretty "slick".. :)

I've been running Shell Rotella T (now T6) in both cars. As far as filters... I'm not entirely picky on that one. I just get the biggest one I can (which the one on the STi is smaller than the one on my previous Civic, which should be mounted on a lawn mower) in a quality brand like AMSOIL, Purolator ONE, Wix, etc. I don't use Mobile1 filters as they've been one of the most restrictive. TBH, when I drive the cars, I spend a lot of time in bypass anyway. :)

I'll never push what oil to use, just recommend researching before swearing by one, not that you are.

Most "full-synthetics" are just fully synthetic additives. I don't even have to remove the drain plug to change oil in most of my cars now. I got a pump that allows me to take it out through the dipstick tube. The filter is the only thing I have to get on the ground for and the SHO is easy as my other cars have a damn under-tray without an access door.

I personally don't trust anyone to do something on my car, especially engine blood. My wife, before we met, had an oil filter fall off on a trip across country after having her oil changed somewhere. I had another buddy in AZ go pick up and start his car with no oil in it.

It's probably been a year or so since I last looked, but I haven't heard/seen anything good about RP from any test results I've seen.

On my '10 Fusion , I grabbed a PEP (french) which is a 1200$ fee for 3 years of Ford maintenance , every maintenance/oil change is done like said in the manual.

Slap it in your payments and enjoy.

Yea I noticed the thread went towards RP... all the data I saw was on Mobil 1. And yea I know how most of them are just added crap, thats why I dont consider that stuff.

And yea, I don't let anyone touch mine either. You do realize that is how I got this pristine 93 of mine.... shop rebuilt his trans, put him in a new thermostat, plugs wires, a couple sensors.... and forgot to put oil in it. :) Filter was dry, nothing but coolant in the pan. :)

I use the synthetic 5w40. Given the mileage I put on the cars, I change the oil about yearly. I stick to 3k mile intervals as I do 'play' with the cars and track them as well.

I really believe that it is because the sooner your car wears out the sooner Ford will sell you another. That said, the new oils are a lot better and tend to last longer then in the past. I change oil and filter using full syn. but that's me, a ton of people have told me that I am wasting money on the syn. but it's me and that's what I feel comfortable doing with oil changes. i really think that under normal conditions you probably can go 7500 without damage...it's just that I just can't bring myself to go that many miles between changes...I think that's because of my age and the era that I got my "car training". Just for reference, I change all our vehicles oil and filters every 3000 miles.

Worth every penny. If I did it myself it would cost me $35. For an extra $45 I dont have to jack up my 4,000lb+ car, stick it on jack stands, drain, change the filter, fill it up, take it off the stands, then find a place to take the old oil. Doing all of this while it's freezing outside. No thanks. Changing the oil would take me at least an hour, and my time is worth more than $50 an hour. Besides that I hate crawling under a car on stands.
