Nice website, too bad it doesn't make any sense.
I looked up my 95 which has the same numbers as the 93, to find that the automatic version of my car with an almost 10% bigger motor and automatic transmission gets exactly the same mileage numbers as the manual...... who knew?
Also I find out that the 3.8 Essex engine in the same car with automatic transmission gets better mileage than the 3.0 SHO.... again, who knew?

wow! talk about pulling out the one piece of data to support your cause, no matter how misleading. this is where the phrase "figures don't lie, but liars figure" comes from.

if you actually read that site, you will see that actual reported mileage averages 24.4 in combined driving.

the numbers reported by guys above are actual real life numbers, not something gleaned from some government website that tells us how to think.

When you have the 3.8 Essex (26%) larger engine, getting better mileage, in the same body, your know something is wrong.
Let me suggest they did not have a SHO to test, and they did a lot of guessing.

I'm not exactly sure where some of you guys are getting your inflated mpg numbers from, but according to my employer AND the (very accurate) gov't website; my '93 ATX should (only) get 16 city & 24 hwy- a combined mpg of 18!! See the link below:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm
Ummmm... Try odometer readings divided by gas receipts.

Next you're gonna tell us that the government MPG numbers are more accurate than the gas pump flow meter and the simple mechanical odometer on the car? Sorry, buddy, you're wrong.

Just because the government says that a given car should get a certain MPG figure, that doesn't mean squat in the real world, especially when compared against real world empirical data.

Its a good looking SHO, looks like it was well maintained except for a few small things.

I would see if you can get it for $2000 even, after a test drive, a Carfax review, and
a review of the maintenance records.

Then if you know of a place that will do it, see if you can have a "Courtesy Inspection" done. The shop I work at does it and we have a 32 point inspection we go over for you, free. We let you know of problems or future problems, then detail your car.

Actually, my co-worker still have his window sticker from when he purchased his SHO new in '94. It shows 16city 24Hwy.

Rubydist: Based on the "real" numbers you reference above, my SHO is averaging 16-18 city; and I haven't had a chance to test HWY, cuz I don't drive HWY much, (and haven't been on any trips).
I don't have any engine issues to speak of.....I've just accepted it as nature of the beast. Runs great...what do I expect-- right?
Cheers!

Window Sticker

I just pulled out my 1993 ATX Window Sticker and it says:

17 MPG City 26 MPG Highway

and total for this car in 1993 $28,083.00

Sticker also says:

(feedback fuel system)

AFAIK, all Tauruses (at least from '86 to '07) have the "feedback fuel system". It just means that in addition to the fuel line feeding fuel from the tank to the fuel rail, there is another feeding back to the tank to get cycle back "excess" fuel.

My thoughts? Buy a car from a forum member, in a non rust belt location or at least a car brought in from one, that's too much rust to start off with and I live here too.

My Full bolt on race car get's 30 MPG Highway, My other halfs 3.2 MTX gets 30 MPG Highway and 23 City. So get out of here saying we are "inflating" our numbers, giving someone who is loooking at buying a SHO BAD Info based on your car that clearly has something wrong (or the driver can't keep his foot out of it) if he can only Muster 16 MPG.

I'm not exactly sure why you guys continue to argue fuel economy. I KNOW what the window sticker says, I know what my mathematic equations come up. There is no sense beating a dead horse. It is what it is.

Underneath a SHO somewhere...
$2500 to much money i wouldnt give $2000 neither.keep looking you can find one rust free in better shape for less you just have to be patient.the 92 i bought my dad had 52,000 mi on it (as far as we know) in amazing shape and i only paid $200 for it.BUT it needed a clutch and new tires and every window in the damn thing had to be replaced someone shot the windows out with a bb gun. it had been sitting for 5yrs.now i just happend to be in the right place at the right time dont expect to only pay $200 for a clean sho.but theyre out there just keep your eyes open.;) and the mpg thing BS i have always got great mpg with mine. now my dads 98 v8 sho a different story, it never got as good as the v6 of course it has 2 more cyl.

I paid $2000 for my 1990 SHO MTX w/ 95K miles in 09/2009, it needed another 2-3K to get it where I like it. Struts, upper & front 60K , tinted windows, ect ect.

I emailed this guy who owns this one & for $1200 I would offer him and $600-$800 to get it drivable and have a much better one for the same money.
He also sent me pics of the front 60K being done ect

UGH

Nice lookin' 90 man, "the posting had expired" unfortunately, but I appreciate the info.

This car was from lancing, probably the same one, lol that ironic. CL title read something like clean rare 94 sho...but thanks for the heads up

Dang, wish there was one around here that did that, most of the ones I know have a flat fee for a pre-purchase inspection and would never even consider throwing in a free detail. The shop you work at sounds pretty awesome.

im contemplating selling mine and starting from scratch. ya know build a new one. but i really love my baby.
228k but she is has all the major mods
want me to put up some pics

Sure, everybody loves pics, n I'm a big fan of red shos.

Appreciate you guys clarifying the MPG thing as the good gas mileage is one of the reasons I'm considering making one a daily. I'd trust real life numbers reported by actual SHO drivers over a government rating or website any day so thanks for the info.

A/C

A/C doesn't work, says the reason is a leaky line, heat does work.

The A/C on these can be really expensive. Just because they described it as a "leaky line" that is rarely the case. When these A/C systems go, they go with a bang (black death) and mine cost $1200 to fully replace/evacuate, etc.

That guy asking for $2500 is smoking some good stuff.. I wouldnt pay more than $800 with all of that rust.. Thats bad news. Im sure the body isnt even straight anymore because of the location of that rust spot alone. Better check the undercarriage. I bet the subframe is rusted out too.
