uhmw bushings?

I just picked up a beautiful 91 that needs a clutch. I figured i would upgrade the subframe bushings while im in there. I hear a lot about ASFBs in shos but wouldnt bushings made of UHMW polyethylene be a better alternative? Any suggestions?

Welcome first of all. ASFBs are great and offer a brand new feel to the car from what others say. Otherwise alot of people upgrade to Gen III rear subframe bushings.

I am able to have them machined to the exact specs that i desire. Possibly shaped to match the ASFBs that are (were) sold from SHOshop? My thinking is that the UHMW will have all of the benefits of ASFBs without the negatives such as: extreme stress at the point of contact, causing cracks and weakness down the road; and maybe a slightly less harsh ride.

Thanks for the welcome. I am able to have the uncut stock machined to desired specs. I was thinking of having them matched to the dimensions of ASFBs that are commonly used, if they can be found. My rationale for using the UHMW poly is that (hypothetically) it will give the same benefits of ASFBs with the added benefits of reduced stress at the contact points and a slightly better ride quality.

The uhmw poly is not going to be a good choice, because it will creep more than the delrin that people have had problems with.

There were a few people out there that sold them in the past there were lots of issues with them cracking and creeping over time. And they just dropped them because of that. I myself can't say the AL bushings made my car harsh. But if you scared of that just get 4 gen 3 sho rear bushings and install them. There much better than the gen 2 ones.

Thanks for the info everybody. Ill update with how surgery goes and my final decision on SFBs.
