I was reading the post that "hdminium" (Bill) wrote on his "Vader" look conversion. I started thinking. I own a SEL Taurus that I'm cloning to have a SHO appearance package. So... If anyone is interested in swapping the tail lights so you can remove the chrome trim look and have them darkened, please let me know. It will be a lot cheaper then buying new regular style tail lights. Even swap, shipping cost only.
Send private messages to work out details. Thanks Ken

If anyone is looking to do this I would jump on it in a second.. Great opportunity for both to get what you want. And this way if you were going to go the route I did you don't have the guy at the dealership looking at you and saying " You want to do what to one of my brand new cars..."

Jump on it folks....:woo-hoo:

Not that my opinion matters as I don't have a new SHO, but I dig the chromed taillights. Without the trim it looks very blend and kinda cheap.

I think the chrome looks better on some colors, but not all of them. On the darker colors, remove the chrome and paint the pieces to match the car color. I plan on painting the fender emblems and maybe the grille too. The rear I may wrap with that carbon fiber like the one guy did or paint that too. Tinting the lights look bad ass too, and I just received my headlight tinting supplies, but some cops around here don't really go for it. I'll see how long mine lasts though. I'm keeping the rear lights chrome for now, along with the door/window trim. If my car wasn't silver, I'd have at de-chroming it in a second.

Yeah, I'm kind of with PonySHO at the moment. While I understand that they are going for a Project Black-Out here, I kind of like most of the chrome on mine at the moment. The only thing I was thinking of seeing about getting rid of was the window-chrome on the doors if I tint, because they it sticks out a bit too much.

I think the same way some of you do about the darker color's. Doing away with some of the chrome is OK.
Mine being silver I feel it needs the chrome. I did take off the Ecoboost on the trunk. I am working on some thing else back their and well show you all when I get it done.

I like both looks, the de-chromed look, and the chromed "appearance package" look. I have a feeling most buyers will stay with the brightwork that comes on the car. I still believe there is a market for a base model with a lower sticker price... the base model without the sunroof could be even more base.
I think there will be a day when you will be able to "dim" out the chrome, just like you dim your dash-lights. There will be a "formal" setting for dinner and opera and gala events, and an "action" setting for stealth exercises. The materials for this can't be far off.

I had a few forum members ask me about swapping the front LED lights also.
I would be interested in also doing those as well. Are there any other parts/items that you guys are thinking about swapping out? I would be interested in hearing what you have in mind. You can send me a private message or email me: [email protected]
Thanks Ken

IMO, the LEDs are more cosmetic than functional. About all they do is light up the ground when you get out. Unfortunately, I don't see anything to swap them with. Also, I would imagine you'd have to run new wiring for foglamps and a switch. LEDs don't draw much current and foglamps do.

If you are going for the blacked out look then you swap out the silver surrounds for the taurus textured black ones like I did with my car.
I am pretty sure that is what Ken was getting at..

The offer is still open. If someone is interested in swapping taillights, let me know. Here is the link to the forum that started the "Blackout" look with the tinted (Darkened) taillights:

Here are a few photos from the forum thread:
