Ok AZ folk, I am assembling the pile of parts for my powersteering work at dooleyville on the 18th. After a bit of research on the forum (thanks bizzy for maintaining this place) I am ordering the following parts and need to make sure I have not forgotten anything.

1991 SHO

1 rack: SHO Specific part: 6493: $174 bucks

1 high pressure power steering Pressure line Hose (pump to rack): Part 71829: $29.00

1 Power Steering return line (rack to cooler) Part: 91774: also $29.00

1 Inline filter: Cardone part number 20-FLT1 $1.99

A few quarts of cheap ATX fluid to flush the system before replacement of the rack

A few quarts of Mobil 1 ATX to fill the new system back up after replacement.

Am I leaving anything out? I elected not to buy a new power steering pump as it appears as though the one I have is working fine....besides it was another $200 and added headaches to replace that!

My fluid leakage level is approaching governmental superfund site proportions and I dont want to risk a catostrophic failure of my steering with Tom's niece and nephew in the car.

Eric: I dont know that I will take on the strut mounts during this trip as the rack work sounds pretty involved as it is. I dont ever want another super late night in tom's garage with Eric and I beating the SHO with sledgehammers again. Would rather enjoy sitting back at the race track with a couple of cold ones with eric instead.

Thoughts?

just so you know, Donovan will have a subframe with all of the power steering stuff bolted to it. the rod ends have about 6000 miles on them.

I would not use synthetic ATF.

1. cost/benefit (costs more...no benefit)
2. compatability (not sure about syn ATF, but cheap ATF works great)

I have fairly new stuff on mine already (thank you Tom) but will keep this in mind as we have it all apart.

Tom, do you have the engine support at your place? Dont know we have to remove the entire subframe per the directions, but because we have the lift, that would make the job easier no?

I'm going to make a parts run at lunch today.

yea actually I dont like the mobil 1 atx i'm using now as a refill option...seems it leaks more than the cheap stuff would....likely cause its so thin?

also of note mike, while i wont be able to make the meet because i brain farted about my bro in laws wedding that weekend, there will also be an 89 SHO (AKA the spyhunter) there, i'm buying it from jesse in a little over an hour. i'll enquire as to the parts you need if they are in decent shape. if you are cool with yanking them, and tom is cool with you yanking them. i gotta iron out the particulars with tom as far as the car goes.

i only want the 96 upgrade, wheels (yay, no more t bird slicers) the y pipe and exhaust piping, and maybe one or two more things.

i told tom that he is welcome to the rest of it, including the smokey engine, and what i believe to be a decent transmission residing in the car.

i just get anything left in the trunk:naughty::angelnot:

i'm gonna be yanking the motor out of my car, and putting in the spare jesse has.

Ah, well if you're pulling the subframe you'll still need a full front-end alignment. The struts aren't much more work once everything is apart. What were you wanting to do, replace the strut bearings?

What time are you planning to start on all that? I can get up there earlier than usual if need be.

I've got an entire power steering system I pulled off a 95 3.2 if you want me to bring any of it over. It was complete and doesn't appear to leak and I'm not going to use it. I want the ZF rack off the 96 I need to part out.

ya'll have fun... unfortunately i spent 9 hours over at jesses last night, just to hand him money...

and then he made me stay, forced me to drink beers, laugh, have a generally good time and eat chips and bean dip. and the worst, the WORST of all he did, he let me take his notchback down to get cigarettes, and then ride in his 66 le mans...

can you believe the nerve of that guy? oh well, as of now i own all his SHO related stuff, minus one little thing...

I appreciate the offer, I dont know if the VAPS Gen II stuff works on a gen I. Considering the time I need to put into the replacement, I'm gonna go with the new Reman Unit...its 175 bucks, but lifetime warranty.
