oil in plug wells, wheel moving itself in turns, holes punched in manual transmission, and stuff you'd look for in any other used car

LOL...Holes punched in manual transmission is not something I would be looking for in any other car!

I found one I thought was a good buy until I saw the cracks in the transmission! SO BEWARE!

    A Camry.

It may be hard to see, because sometimes it will only crack...but all of the fluid will have leaked out. If its a manual, and the transmission looks really clean on the bottom, but everything else is messy, I'd be asking about it. It may be hard to see a hole without getting all the way under the car.

If it were me, I'd be looking for rust. Bottoms of the doors, the rear wheel lips, and the rocker panels. All of these places will trap salt and eat away at the metal.

Like all other purchases, just make sure the price matches the condition.
If you are going for a high end example, have someone inspect it before you buy.
If you are at the entry level, make sure the things where you have no talent are good already. General rule is get one that doesn't need to be painted. Transmissions tend to be expensive as well.
