Hello All, Just joined in hopes of finding someone who has intimate knowledge of the original emission equipment (mostly EGR valve and controller/computer numbers).
I am using the complete drivetrain (1994 MTX 3.0) for another project which must still comply to our strict(stupid) emissions regulations for registration to be street legal.
I have purchased Factory Manual sets for 1989, 1992 and 1994 in hopes of clarifying what should be with the engine when time comes to get my BAR decal from the Referee. According to the manuals, it looks as if all 3.0 MTX 1992 and earlier SHO's had an EGR circuit for California vehicles and NO EGR on 49 State vehicles.
Looking at the 1994 Manual and EVTM, it appears that only the 3.2 ATX SHO had EGR and that the 3.0 didn't. Was this the time when 49-state vehicles went away and Ford made all of them to California compliant becoming 50-state vehicles for all?

I ask because I may have to 'educate' the emissions referee about the reason my 1994 SHO has no EGR circuit. I want to be prepared and limit the number of surprises to my engine transplant project.

Thanks to anyone who can illuminate things with definite facts.

all of the atx SHO 93-95 had EGR whether they were CA or not. I believe the atx cars were all 50 state emissions.

afaik, all CA mtx 89-95 SHO had EGR. the 49-state mtx SHO did not have EGR. because of this, the pcm code for the CA mtx cars was different from the 49-state.

Welcome to the forum, let us know more about your transplant project

I picked up a 94 MTX SHO a couple of years ago. The sticker says it was delivered to a San Diego dealership and it does not have any EGR equipment on it. Car was built in June 94. I have seen other owners posting they had cars from CA that did not come with EGR equipment. Maybe towards the end of the Gen 2 run, they started delivering cars without EGR to CA. I was actually surprised it didn't have an EGR set up and I had read all CA came with it. But glad it didn't since its one less thing to deal with.

Take a look at the thread when Dennis gage was selling a CA car that did not have an EGR set up
You have to go to the ebay link and go to the original listing to see pictures of the engine

Yes, the vehicle I have also is void of the EGR circuit. The bosses on the intake and exhaust manifolds are there as cast but have no machining work done to them. Every photo I have seen of these '93 and later 3.0s are all the same and have yet to see one with EGR. I even went as far as checking part numbers for the EGR valve from a pre-1993 3.0 to a 1993 up Automatic 3.2 and the valve has a different part number. As well the tubes and exhaust manifolds are different as well.
The pinouts and functions of pins from computer to computer are completely different as well manual to auto.

The reason I am trying to do all my own research is because I have found with the DMV and related agencies, employees tend to 'blanket' rules and policies unless you suggest otherwise.

Scott, can you check your EEC-IV to see if its an X2J (49 sate) or X2Z (Cali ?)

Curious about this I checked EGR equipped rear exhaust manifolds on car-part.com, and sure enough for MTX Kali cars the listings taper off at 1993.

FWIW all SHOs have the EGR bosses unmachined in the case of 49 state MTX and machined, apparently, for 89-93 MTX and all 93-95 ATX

Maybe try contacting Ford to see if they will generate a letter stating original equipment. Kirk and others associated with SHOclub have contacts within Ford.
